Ok here's a little experiment..I'm going to pick 1 knife to edc for the next 60 days..it will be the only knife I'm allowed to use at home work or in the woods for the next 60 days. with the exception of a kitchen knife in the kitchen and a chopping tool in the bush. I will be choosing a folder for the sheeple friendly factor and ease of carry, just haven't decided which one yet.it'll be a sort of creative thinking excercise, as I'll be learning how to adapt my folder to numerous scenarios, I think that spending so much time with just one knife will also help me to quell my paranoia about constantly finding a better knife. If anyone is in on trying this along with me we can iron out the details and share our results along the way... Well that's it

I would be up for that Riley, but I have 2 new k nives coming next week and 1 knife coming next month. There is no way I can not use them once I get them. I have been waiting too long for that.

I feel your pain brother.. I'm rifling through my collection trying to decide which one it'll be..

I want to use either a trapper or a stockman... or maybe I'll just have to buy a new knife LOL

Yeah right - I suppose we are supposed to think about the merits of monogamy for the same duration also.....

How about we just try not to buy another knife for 60d?

I'm tempted to get in on this with you. If I did, I'd probably go for my Fallkniven U2. It's inexpensive and as sharp as anything. Hmmm....

this sounds like torture to me. I have way too many (although nothing compared to some of you knife nutters!) knives and i fully enjoy using every one of them.

my god if i had to choose (ie: "forced to choose") just one knife for two months.....i "guess" i would pick my Kabar Mule. At least i know it would hold up to wilderness beatings, daily work beatings, etc etc.

but i dont want to be limited to just one......I like th efact i can choose a knife for every possible cutting situtation 100 times daily.

nufff said.

I pulled a 3 months EDC with the emerson cqc-12. been a fun time abusing that folder :)
beating it in the bush all summer batonning with it and doing some light prying.
keeps an edge realll nice too.

The Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades group did this earlier this year. The goal was to go as long as they could with just one pocket knife, trying to get to a year with just the one knife.

Nobody made it to a year. :D Most of the ones doing it lasted at least a couple of months, and one guy went through three copies of the same knife in six months -- lost one doing tornado recovery stuff, and gave the other two away during later tornado recovery efforts. The guys in the forum sent him a couple of replacements.

Myself, I've figured out pretty much what I like to carry. I switch around between the ones that do what I need them to, according to the whim of the day. So I guess I won't play the game this time around. But I wish you good luck.

I'll get in on this 60 day thing. I just got an Emerson CQC-12 plain edge a few days ago. I've already started my counter on my signature for the number of days I've been carrying it (I need to update it to 5 days now). I'm pretty sure I could do the challenge with this knife.

That's good to hear that your CQC-12 held up through all of that cuphead . Not to sidetrack, but how did it do against rust during all of that outdoor time?

Considering I used it to fillet and slice veges/fruits, It held up nicely with a touch of Camellia oil every now and then.
It's my favorite tactical folder, really impressed with it.

i think i could do this. my bradley alias is king for me. even as much as i love my northwoods scagel, 34ot, farmer, griptilian, native, case, ec, my alias1 always wins out. i guess i could be in.

Riley why not go with a fixed blade and use it for your kitchen tasks as well !!!

I'm pretty sure I could get by with any of these both in the kitchen and the woods !

Pit dog You'r probably right but edcing any of those in my neck of the woods is a fast track the funny farm

I'm up for the challenge. I just bought a BM HK 14210 and have yet to carry it. I'm not sure I really like the blade shape so carrying it for 60 days will give me an idea as to whether or not I really like it. I suspect that once I carry it for that length of time I will either learn to love it or it will be put up on the trading forum.

I'll post some pics of it as should everyone else that is up for the challenge.....Once you're able to finally decide on a knife.

It's going to be hard though because my EDC right now is a Case Canoe and it has been for a very long time. I work in an office around a bunch of idiots so the BM HK may just sit in my pocket all day long and not come out that much.

I'm ready though. When are you starting your 60 days?

riley, a cool idea. i know that i could, i have in the past when i felt inclined...but i know that as soon as i commit i am going to have 1000 chances when i wish i could go get another knife for this reason or that.

if i had to pick now i would go either with the Case stockman or probably even moreso the pioneer trapper in jigged bone by GEC. the springs on that are monsters, and they hold the blades open very solidly. i have no hesitation using that knife like i did the other trappers i tried.

Or maybe I'll use the large stockman I bought and haven't carried yet.....

Siguy - you've got to love a good slippie for EDC carrie but I've never carried one out in the woods, this would be a good opportunity to put it to use.

How do they do out and about on the trail?

i've EDC'd the same knife for 2 years now,an emerson cqc-14 "snubby" with no exception.i may have worn a bigger blade on top of that for chopping when needed.

just last week i retired the emerson from full time EDC duty to replace it with a ZT302.i really like the 302
