the 60 day challenge

I'll start my 60 days once I make up my mind on which knife... I want to use a trapper but thier a little big for edc use in the city... so it'll probably be a stockman. of some sort... I have a convexed buck stockman from siguy which is the sharpest thing I've ever seen....Lets give ourselves a stat date of monday september 29th How's that sound?

Ill give it a try! I usually EDC a SAK Electrician Plus front right and an Al Mar ultralite Eagle right rear. Ill dump the Eagle. 12" Ontario for chopping and a Mora for the kitchen. I think the 60 days puts me into the 1st week of deer season. Ive field dressed a deer with a Leatherman but never with a SAK. Should be interesting!--KV

Not a problem for me, I`ve been using a Vic Soldier for my EDC for over 6 years.

I am thinking my Opienel Gardner, it is the one I wear in a sheath on my belt and usual pull out for most task.

myright, slipjoints in the woods are no problem. my knife is used mostly for making feather sticks and slicing up lunch, so nothing too demanding. in wet weather i like to baton to get to the center of wood, but i rarely have to.

i often go out for little hikes in the woods behind the house or i will be at a friends house and we will take an impromptu hike. in these cases i rarely even think about my knife, but i've never been worried about being underknifed.

i love a nice slipjoint in the woods.

last weekend it was wet all weekend and my 1095 GEC got a wipe down with some 3-in-1 oil one night when i had nothing better to do after cutting wet rope for a while... it got a tiny bit of surface rust, barely detectable. no real issues though.

Allright! so the rules are..

60 days one knife for edc and for the woods
it'll go with you to work, to he store, to the bush (where ever) No other blades are permitted with the exceptions of the following.. you may use a conventional knif in the kitchen or resturaunt, and you may use a chopping tool (machete or axe or hawk ) in the bush. The start date is set as Mon September 22, We can use this thread to post our findings and such.. I think we'll all be surprised in one way or another by what we find.

interesting question..HMMM... Might be interesting to rule out multi's as a means of really using our witz and knives to imporvise... but I think multies arre allowed. So if your choice is a multi than go for it... If you choose a different type of knife and you normally use a multi be prepared to start using you melon even more than before I guess.

Man I really wish it was legal to EDC my Aurora here in the city :grumpy: The idea of not having it with me in the woods kind of freaks me out a bit. Maybe I'm not cut out for this :o

Yeah right - I suppose we are supposed to think about the merits of monogamy for the same duration also.....

How about we just try not to buy another knife for 60d?

i am in the process of a 90 day:eek: no knife purchasing. it ends in october, at which point i will reward myself by getting a koyote camp chopper.

Barber, Nice going that's a great reward

Theo,

You can throw it in your bush bag and leave it there for security in case things go awry... You just can't use it unlee they really do....

Well, I am due for a 3-day hike in the Grand Canyon during the first week of November. I can take a fixed blade or two I guess, but you still want me to stick to my Fallkniven U2 even during my hike???

The reason I ask is because my employer frowns upon knives being visible, but will sometimes pass a multi.

I may do this. However, the most feasible knife for me to use is my Schrade 1080T. While it's great medicine for an ornery sandwich, I find it hard to imagine using only the 1080T in the wilderness, too. Perhaps this is exactly the perspective I need then, eh? :P I'll think about it and let y'all know by Monday.
Good idea, Riley  I EDC'ed my 551 D2 Griptilian for almost 4 years without any aid (other than the requisite fixed blade while in the wilderness). I appreciate the practices of minimalism and ingenuity.

Allright here's my pick for 60 days... I was going to pick a trapper but it's a little big for edc carry so I'm going with a case medium stockman in cv steel. ( a little diminutive) we'll see how it goes for the next 60 days. Is it bad that I already changed my mind...since we're not starting till monday I decided to pic a vic farmer instead..I keep getting drawn in by the classical allure of the old school slippie but my alox saks are rock solid...

So that means when your E.W.O.K. arrives next week, you are not going to play with it? ;)
