This forum isn't free advertising, it's people choosing to talk about Becker knives with people who share their love for such a great product, and that's what this entire website is about, sharing knowledge and laughs, not preferential treatment. Think of it this way:

If you were to write a good review of a product from a company (in this analogy we'll say an iPod from Apple), so you bought an iPod from Apple and you liked it, so you wrote a good review about said iPod on an online forum about computer technology that has a sub-forum about Apple products, does apple owe you anything for doing this?

If your honestly writing a good review then no they don't owe you anything, if your writing it because you want something from the company that you think you are entitled to because you wrote a good review, then you owe that company, the designer of the product, and everyone you tried fooling an apology.

well, sub-manufacturing forums are terribly free, they're paid for space by the given manufacturer, as a rule

much like being a paid for advertiser, so that you can be mentioned and linked to. like tomar.

so in a way, yes, this is paid advertising arenas...

and generally, the user base does what they do. reviews? great. no reviews? great... chat it up, keep it fresh.

however, i would like to believe, that when we get a sponsored knife contest/pass-around? yeah, that kinda requires a review as a thank you. it's not required, and indeed, doesn't always happens, but it happens a lot. good trade/karma/whathaveyou...

KaBar doesn't do a lot of traditional marketing, they don't sell in big name stores, and they rely on old school distributors and resellers. lately, they're trying out this forum thing. seems to be working :)

I've been collecting knives for a long time. I've looked at Becker knives before and never felt any interest in them because the photos and catalog descriptions apparently do not do them justice. When I started following this forum I decided they were great products. So THIS FORUM has convinced me to buy one or more. How many other people here can say the same thing? I've seen photos here of people on this forum that have 3 or 4 or many more of them. Would they have bought that many if it was not for this forum? So THIS FORUM has apparently sold a LOT of knives for them, at no cost to them at all. So yes I believe somebody owes somebody something, even if it is just a simple thank you. (Personally I think an apology is owed for not letting all of us get into the deal but that is apparently my opinion and mine only, but I guess I will eventually get over not having one.)





Please don't misunderstand, I wanted a chance to buy a 15/16/17, I don't really have interest at this time in the 10's that came before my time. (Actually I saw one on <auction site> today for $240!!!)

I promise I'll shut up and go away. Maybe I'll just crawl back in my hole and buy an Izulu. And I'm in the engineering business, not the credit business. And the engineering business is 99% dead these days.

I'm not trying be a smartass either. I'm being serious.

First, no need to crawl back into your hole, we like having you here. If you want to go buy an Izula, by all means, go ahead, I have 3. They are some great knives worth every penny, and Jeff and Mike would appreciate the business.

Second, this isn't Kabar's forum, its Ethan's, and if you knew Ethan, you would know, it belongs to everyone here. See, we don't do this stuff to sell knives, we do this stuff because its fun. Folks see what we are doing with our inexpensive, badass knives and want to play, well, grab some steel and roll up your sleeves.

Does this forum sell knives? Bet your ass it does.

Kabar doesn't owe us a damn thing, they make and sell knives to distributors, who in turn sell to dealers, who in turn sell knives to us. They owe me exactly nothing, and if you wanna look a the history of this forum, you'll see that I have put more effort, time and energy into it, than pretty much anyone else. I don't walk around yelling it, but check my stats, and the history of this forum, and tell me what you saw before November 2010.

If you want an apology from the person that knew Smoky Mountain Knife Works had bought all the First Run Shorts, and didn't tell you, well, here goes,

I apologize for not telling this forum and other forums that I freqent, the information that I had been given.

There. Done deal. And that is a sincere and heartfelt apology, from a Moderator and Representative of the Becker Knife and Tool forum.

I give away tons of stuff here, and if you do that search that I was telling you about, you'll see that. Last year, over 200 to be exact. Wanna know where I get the knives? Kabar gives them to me, and in turn, I give them to the members that visit this forum. I broker deals with the site owner, to have Kabar sponsor FREE knives, with a membership here. Know why? It helps keep the lights on at the BFC party shack. What do I get out of it? Not a damn thing. No pay, no vacation, and no free knives. Yup, you heard me, I don't keep a single knife that I get from Kabar, except the ones they want me to break and test out, and most times, I send back the halves when I'm done.

So, I again state, stick around. We like having new folks here, that participate, cut up and have a good time. That is really why we are here, but if you go around wanting "something" from Kabar, well, then you might have to spend a little more time here, since, they gave us over $9,000.00 dollars worth of free knives last year. And that's dealer prices, not street prices. Street prices might be well over $12,000.00.

So, Kabar has given. Just not an apology.

Thanks Moose. I still don't understand what the hoopla is about. Aren't there still knives available for purchase? And enough for most every Beckerhead who actually wants one to get one? And with Ethan's signature on it, which to my mind is very cool? If they were sold out and there had been a general run on them and lots of Beckerheads got left out, that would be one thing. But it's not like anybody really got left out of the party here, as near as I can tell. I'm seriously looking forward to seeing some more Shorts pron here, personally. I appreciate everything y'all do for us, including making us play nice. I'm pushing 2000 posts, and a substantial portion of those have been in this subforum, which is also why my next giveaway (either at 2000 posts, or at 1K in here, whichever comes first) is going to be in here as well. Heck of a good party.

I think this thread has run it's course...don't you? We beat this dead horse anymore it's going to stink up the whole place. Lets get on to more positive things. I think we all got to vent enough at this point.
