well, you know, mostly, this is Ethan's forum, not KaBar's. as run by your MODular ones. we setup the rules.

we MODs don't have a contract with KaBar. they have NO OBLIGATION to help out.

now, KaBar does provide provide information and goodies and often; they are not involved in heping make this place what it is though. that's YOU!

those major contests? Ethan's thing. passrounds? your MODs and YOU set those up. not KaBar. who posts that's tasty information for the most part? your MODs. Ethan. wonderfully, OfficialKaBar when he's not overworked, but usually us. we ferret it out. we ask. we dig. we try and sometimes fail. thems the breaks. ALSO: let's not forget the TOoOjular one. he pops in here a lot more than we give him credit for, and provides absolutely solid information, and background, and technical stuff. because he wants to. the last word in steel and other processes. appreciate it! i do!

we want you guys to have exclusives and privileges that are earned, and rewarded; i think we've succeeded on many points and many times. we work hard for it. as well, to echo Mooose, we didn't help Ethan start this place for anyone's benefit but his, and yours. lastly, myself - i've been an avid fanboy for decades. yeah, i want to see this place thrive. mostly for Ethan's benefit though. trickle down says you guys get benefits too..

KaBar is a fine business, but they are not obligated here in any way. they make wonderful knives. which we lust for. we buy them. we wax poetic over them. when they DO help out, with generous donations of prizes and such, we should be quite thankful, which i don't think we express often enough (esp with good reviews :D).

there's a KaBar forum over the other side. Official. not much in the way of contests, of prizes, or stuff; not like here. imho, the difference is Ethan. his place, his ways. super busy guy, so when he pops in, when he can, it's special. imho, hes not really obligated either. we love it when he does, but we should treat it as special, not a right we expect. not an obligation.

everything else is gravy :)

First just so there's no confusion - I realize all of the above and without blowing too much smoke up ya'll's arse (s) LOL ...appreciate all that, Ethan, "The Trinity", Toooj, Kabar, et all, do for all of us.

Second - let me apologize if I had any part in fanning and fires around this whole isssue - (moi ?! Noooo !) :D

Serious - really didn't mean too - had we'all known the back story - prob. safe to say, some feathers wouldn't have been ruffled. (weather they deserved to be ruffled or not)

This whole thing been covered sufficiently ?

As one of The Trinity would say ... "Hell Yeah"

mmm, did i miss something with Tomar? was their a problem? or a slight? KaBar has dozens and dozens and dozens of vendor possibilities. SMKW just happened to be there at the right time.

One of the early posters in this thread wanted to know why SMKW got the pile and not [someone everyone likes] Tomar. I was just responding to that. No problems.

mmm, did i miss something with Tomar? was their a problem? or a slight?

That is a matter of opinion and there are lots of opinions in this thread. Apparently they were sold to a different distributor, I haven't read if Tomar had a shot at them or not. I have asked but haven't received an answer yet as to when the next run would be ready for sale so others could have a shot at them. I would like to have one and I'm sure with all of the interest that has been generated and will be generated by this forum that lots of other people would like to buy them too.

It has been said that they don't owe us anything. If it wasn't for this forum they might have sold 10 already instead of the roughly 750 or so. I say that they DO owe us something.

Who's been left out??? There's 120+ of each knife still left......

Have you checked lately? I heard differently.

Guess I need to order about 65 more BK15s just to keep the score even... :victorious:

you have a barbecue big enough to cook up 65 TBone Steaks all at once?????

b/c that's what my 15 is going to get used for. all the time. maybe even every day. maybe even 2-3 steaks PER day. one for each meal. possibly gorilla steak. slathered in pear preserves. how do i contact trade for the pear preserves?

At least one less BK17 now, I just ordered one for a 50 something year old woman at work. She thought it was cute and had to have one.

I will be honest, once you get one in hand, any negative feelings disappear. Just a magnificent knife. Love this thing.

It has been said that they don't owe us anything. If it wasn't for this forum they might have sold 10 already instead of the roughly 750 or so.

So you think that 98.67% of whatever (accurate) number of knives sold on the SMKW Tactical Knives Show came from this forum? If you really think that, then your opinion is worth exactly what Kabar owes us; nothin'.

If it was intentional hyperbole, then it is so extremely exaggerated as to make it meaningless as well.

I say that they DO owe us something.

Then perhaps you can be specific. What do they owe us, and as payment in consideration for what goods or services we have provided to earn it? You do understand that if one is owed something, then the debtor has received a good or service for which they have not yet paid, right? Is our patronage of their business the "service" which you think we provide them?

Have you checked lately? I heard differently.

Mrn8 obviously checked:

There's 140 BK16 left right now. 205 BK15s and 127 BK17s.

What are you doing wasting time hammering Kabar here for? Shouldn't you be busy ordering one of the above-mentioned knives from SMKW so "we" can claim that they, too, owe us for our patronage? You'll never get anywhere in the credit business at this rate. Roll_Eyes_Smiley_by_Mirz123.gif

Seriously though, thanks to the mods and ethan for setting us all straight. I think we've got it all worked out now.

Thanks ARK for the thread.
Thanks Ethan for posting.
I read every single post in this thread.
I agree with many of you and some not so much.
I agree it would be nice for a heads up or a first chance to buy, but we have no buying power.
The BK10's took forever to sell, There are 200 Beckerheads and 150 knives took months to sell.
Ethan is a hell of a guy, He lets all of us idiots come to his home for food and fun.

For anyone bitching about not getting their fair share, enter some of the contests and participate.
Many of these contests are done by members because we love this place and the people here.

A couple of these contests only have a handful of people entered.
I completely lost my train of thought, oh well..............

BDMICARTA, welcome to the forum.

How many of this production batch are going to Beckerheads? I notice that some people bought 3 or more of them, maybe that explains why they didn't last long. Too bad one of us couldn't pony up the cash to buy the whole batch and resell them for a profit, then everybody could have won.

You can buy them all day long, start buying.

Lots of us want the products, especially those who were left out by this special edition. How long do we have to wait until more are available?

The LE BK10's were for Beckerheads first then to everyone else.
Not to be an ass but you've been here a month and you sound put out that you didn't get one.
If I misunderstood you I apologize in advance since the written word can be easily misinterpreted.

what's interesting about the BK10LEs and the final days, is that some people figured "last chance" and bought a few at a time. until then? there were weeks they didn't sell one. it took what? 4 months to clear those out? they had them stacked in bookshelves and on top of conference tables.

when they WERE sold out, oh my, the "how come no one told us :) heh. love it.

now? it's been some number of weeks and weeks. they're GONE as NIB from factory. secondary market awakens. a minute with google finds you sales pointers, mostly to ePrey, but a few to sales threads on BF and other forums. they're hardly rare, but they're hardly cheap anymoe :D

oh hey, did you folx know that today is National Steak and BJ day? yeah, that's right. google it. if you're lucky, you get to cut that steak with a Becker knife, and hopefully get some follow through later... just make sure the knife is put away, we don't want no injuries on this most glorious of days

get some

A little late to the party perhaps, but I don't see what all the ruckus is about. Hell, I'm as happy as a puppy with two peters to get the 16 tomorrow. Nuff' said.

TOTALLY REFERENCING YOU when i make two very specific demands from my wife tonight when i get home from work.

on a related note, might be worth putting dibs in for some of my Becker collection. i don't think the 9 or the 77 will fit in those little cremation urns they use.

I'm still looking for the damn gorilla.
All I know is that knives were released weeks earlier than expected.
Folks were so antsy about getting them, now there are some here.
Buy and enjoy.
Or don't buy.

Is our patronage of their business the "service" which you think we provide them?

Question 1- how many have they sold?
Question 2- how many have they sold to members HERE?
Question 3- if it wasn't for this forum, how many would they have sold to members HERE?

Now do the math and tell us how valuable this forum has been to them as free advertising. If the math doesn't prove what I'm saying then I'll apologize in advance for saying it.

I've been collecting knives for a long time. I've looked at Becker knives before and never felt any interest in them because the photos and catalog descriptions apparently do not do them justice. When I started following this forum I decided they were great products. So THIS FORUM has convinced me to buy one or more. How many other people here can say the same thing? I've seen photos here of people on this forum that have 3 or 4 or many more of them. Would they have bought that many if it was not for this forum? So THIS FORUM has apparently sold a LOT of knives for them, at no cost to them at all. So yes I believe somebody owes somebody something, even if it is just a simple thank you. (Personally I think an apology is owed for not letting all of us get into the deal but that is apparently my opinion and mine only, but I guess I will eventually get over not having one.)

The LE BK10's were for Beckerheads first then to everyone else.

Please don't misunderstand, I wanted a chance to buy a 15/16/17, I don't really have interest at this time in the 10's that came before my time. (Actually I saw one on <auction site> today for $240!!!)

I promise I'll shut up and go away. Maybe I'll just crawl back in my hole and buy an Izulu. And I'm in the engineering business, not the credit business. And the engineering business is 99% dead these days.
