The adventures of Buck knives at Russian winter hunting.

First photo: Huntsmen.

Which knife we used while hunting as EDC.

The best Russian "JEEP" for hunting.

I presented one Alpha Hunter to my friend, and since this moment that knife became his EDC.

My friend Mr. Andrey was glad to got this knife as his EDC.

The weather was nice, temperatures were from minus seven to minus eleven degrees of Celsius, no windy , snow was from thirty till fourty inches on the ground, snow was soft and people and dogs failed deeply, therefore I decided to work as "the dog" :)

There are some preparations before the start on the photo.

Nice pics Igor! You guys do have alot of snow! Looks like the trucks are all set up for it though! ;)

That Vantage is a great knife! Good luck and thanks for the pics!

Then at the evening we were successful.

My friend Mr. Andrey did the first cuts with his Alpha Hunter.
I conceded to him my turn to cut that elk.
Then we picked up this elk to our hunting base.
And which knives were used for the next undressing.
They all are mine. Kalinga is the gift from Mr. Gordon to me.
Alpha Cross Lock is the gift from Mr. Gordon to me .
Do you guys know who Mr. Gordon is ?
I cut the Moose with my Ergo Hunter across the chest bones and cartilages with two hand and all my power, Ergo Hunter had only two small shines on the cutting edge , after that Ergo Hunter cut as it is just sharpened.
No serious damages were on the cutting edge.

The cutting hook with Ergo Hunter cuts very good , only one feature is that you should to cut with the correct angle.

Mr. Gordon = Flatlander :D Very cool! Thanks for the pictures again, and story! Looks like you guys had a good hunt! You have very good taste in knives ;) Your friend also, the alpha hunter is one of my favorites as well.

The big piece of a breast was cut off directly over bones and cartilages with Ergo Hunter.
There was no serious damage for the cutting edge, the knife cut and undressed as it had just been sharpened.
Then Kalinga started for the undressing the elk head and the legs.
The Kalinga knife is the gift to me from Mr. Gordon . I thank him from the bottom of my heart.
He has presented this knife to me as special skinning knife.
Now this Kalinga works for hundred percents , it is very good knife for the skinning and undressing.

Say thanks to my American friend Mr. Flatlander1963 (Mr.Gordon) for his gifts to me.

Hey Hawkeye5, As I can see on your avatar, you are not the last of the hunters in USA. :)

Thanks for your good words.
Yes , Mr. Gordon is my doctor , which cures me from the "Buck`s fever".:D

Igor,

I am thrilled to see your Bucks at work. Did the any of the S30V knives require sharpening during the skinning process?

Also, did you use the serrated sheepsfoot on the Crosslock?

Great pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Igor for the field dressing photos . I always like to see how in different areas this is done . My daughter likes the Alpha Hunter as well . What is celsius during your hunt ?
How many kilos had your elk ? Gordon is great about fixing guys up with Buck knives . DM

Hi Mr. Gordon!
No , no one of my knives S30V made asked me to be sharpened.
But the biggest bones were split with axe.
By my experience S30V knives can make undressing for two or three elks usually, without any sharpening.
But I`m an impatient person and I will not sustain for so long, usually I sharpen my knives more often, because I like sharpening of my Buck hunting knives.
Thanks for the gifts.

Hi Mr. David
I'm not sure how many kilos this elk was, maybe one hundred kilos of the live weight, we usually don't weigh them.
The temperatures were approximately:
- 7 Celsius = 19,4 Fahrenheit
-11Celsius = 12,2 Fahrenheit

Yes, we picked up that elk on a truck platform and took it away to the hunting base.

Hi Igor,

Thank you for the wonderful photo's of your winter hunting trip. It has me smilling....the hunting of your Elk (Moose here in USA) is only part of the fun. Most folks call the skinning and butchering "work". I call it fun and enjoy it as much as the hunt. That S30V is my favorite steel for that fun also.

Great pics! And looks like and awesome hunt as well! Nothing like being in the woods to "get away" for a while! If you know what I mean ! :D

For those who well know the games anatomy it is a fun , I agree with you.
With S30V knives it is a fun twice.

Yes I understand what you mean. Simply to stay in wood is the pleasure.
Therefore I sometimes go to drive out an elk "instead of a dog" and I go without the weapon.:)
It is a pleasure to be alone in wood even if not along.
I saw four wolf`s traces throughout two kilometers during my following on the elk traces.
