The adventures of Buck knives at Russian winter hunting.

Igor! Great pictures! Thanks for sharing! Congratulation with successful hunting!

Great hunt, great knives...and K98 is very reliable & lethal in the 8mm. I have a Mauser Obendorf from 1944, and an older Gewehr 1888 Commission rifle, both shoot 8x57 JS, both are equally accurate still today.
Hi Mr. Scott, glad to hear from you.
Yes Mauser is not a bad rifle , I prefer my SVD (Tiger) 7,62x54R for smaller games, much less of meat will be damaged.:)

garryale, Shared your pictures with a couple of guys at work and like others the truck was the thing they had the most questions about. You had posted the information on the truck so I showed it to them. The amount of snow in the pictures was another thing that they mentioned because here in South Carolina it never snows.
I knew that this truck will be matter for many questions, therefore I made some more photos than usual.

My first rifle was a German 98 Mauser in 8X57 . It was a decent rifle and cartridge . DM
Yes it is a very old weapon , but it works, works and works, at the winter, in the Russian swamp , in high humidity etc.
Germans are not bad as the weapon constructors and engineers.

Great thread Igor, nice moose. Its amazing how things change. The sight of a Russian military vehicle would have brought up totally different thoughts and feelings 25 years ago. Now its a hunting vehicle that interests us greatly, thanks for the pics.
Hi Mr. Fritz!
I knew that this truck will be interesting. We usually use many of old military things in our life.

But that truck looks new. I assume the moose/elk is hauled out on this truck. How do you get the moose on the back of the truck?

Thanks Vasily for your good words.
When will we look at your successful hunts?
I know that you have got the semi-automatic shotgun AK system based.;)
Do you have any photos of your "SAIGA" with the knives or at the hunt?

We put the moose on the platform of this truck with electric capstan engine and five people. Between the platform and the moose body we had put two pine sticks and then we fastened the moose body to the truck frame with the steel wire and the synthetic wire.
It is was easier way than undressing in the forest at night and on the frost, because we shot this moose fifty meters only from the forest road.;)
This truck isn't new .
I don't exactly know when it was produced but two or three years ago this truck was removed from the storage in a military division and has been sold to my friend-huntsman (gamekeeper).
This truck was produced twenty years ago I think.
This truck has been at Army reserve for many years without any operations with it.

New - Old Stock GAZ66, that my friend, is awesome. Do want...
Hi ROM831.
It is the real situation in Russia.
After the "Perestroika" (Reorganisation) Russian Army sold many interesting technical devices to people or to the companies, for the use in their mundane life.
