I realize that this is a "why is the mora bla bla bla" type question and it will probably end up with me buying one and seeing for myself, BUT why is the Fallkniven F1 so highly regarded? Every time I see a thread for "what knife should I get for..." a TON of people say the F1. I don't own one YET. Convince me to buy one. Then I can make F1 sheaths for everyone. ;)

Edit: Also, please provide an obscene amount of pictures. I want to see some knife porn!

I buy lots of knives based on hype. The F1 is one of them. I will buy a few Busses someday as well. All because the internet told me so.

HAHAHA! Yeah. Hows it on your end.... of the same damn boat.

i have one, with the zytel sheath, its a very nice small to medium fixed blade
its very thick, has a wide blade, and a slim handle, the thermorun being more rigid than the kraton found on cold steel knives.
its small size alows you to carry it very easy, looks very very strong, has that potruding tang on the butt, overall its a good knife.
i also have a cold steel srk, i prefer that to the F1, being longer and more suitable for outdoor, in my opinion of course.
anyway, i do carry the F1 more than the SRK, because its smaller and sometimes, because its stainless.
its a very robust knife, good edge holding, stainless, can even use it for some prying, being thick and all, that potruding tang is a good thing, you can hammer it easy, (i would ruin the kraton on the SRK if i would do that).
i like it, its a nice knife, can do many things in the woods, (survival stuff, if i may), but i prefer the SRK, has another feeling in my hand.

Next on the list is definitely a RC-4, but shortly after that, I think I may be adding a F1 also. I'll have to check out the SRK too. Thanks man.

the SRK made now is made of AUS8, try to get the carbon V if you must have it
i cant post pictures, send me an email, il send you in reply some with SRK and F1 togheter, to see the size diference. you can post them here if you want

Great knife for not a lot of money. It's small enough to carry everywhere, tough enough to do most anything you will throw at it, and not too pretty to beat up.

Yes please. Email on the way.

I would get the Master Hunter over the SRK. I have had them both and the Master Hunter is one of the best wilderness knives ever made for the price.

the master hunter looks like the F1, but has no potruding tang, and the steel in F1 is supossed to be better, also the price is not much different.
im not saying that the f1 or the master hunter arent good for survival, just that i prefer the bigger blade of the srk in the woods.

Not to go to the dark side here...but I dont really like the F1..the handle was way to small, and I felt like the knife would slip easily. I much prefer my SRK to the F1. Now as far as Falkniven knives...I highly recomend the H1, easily one of my all time favorite knives for bushcraft. Great feel and blade shape. It does cost more money, but its better. Gene

Personally, I love the F1, so I guess I'm part of the "cult following". It fills my needs, and hand, perfectly.(the lovely hands pictured are my wife's not mine) I know some folks with "big" hands seem to dislike the handle, but coming from someone who can palm a basketball, I don't see how. Maybe there's some sort of sasquatch trait floating around the gene pool that skipped me. :p
That said, I'll echo the previous post in saying that it's small enough to carry everywhere, yet big enough to do pretty much anything you can toss at it. Short of chopping ofcourse.
Solid full/protruding tang construction, clean lines, excellent fit and finish, great out of the box sharpness and edge retention, reasonably priced, etc.
I can't think of a single bad thing to say about the F1, really.
My advice would be to bite the bullet and see for yourself.

I agree with Brian_T........

Well let's list the positives.

Perfect size.
Convex edge.
Thick enough to baton with.
No choil.

And if you get a blank blade you can put your own handle on it.

I agree on the F1 handle, it was too small for me. 10% bigger handle and it would have been my last knife.
well, probably not.:foot:
I have a carbon V SRK as well, it's pretty nice, but I really haven't had a chance to use most of my blades. The handle is much nicer, I like the tackier feel of the handle over my F1.

Yup...everyone of the knives I buy are "the one" and then another one comes along!

That looks great ilbruche...post some more pics of that one. Looks like cocolobo w/ mosaic pins? That's exactly what I would like to use.
