Used one on few whitetail last year. One blade for everything lol! Idk if I’d want to do that with a whole elk though?
Yes Sir! I usually take 3 blades, this year will be my INFI MountainMandu, my B8LE, and a small replaceable razor blade type folder.
Scored both elk and deer tags for this year, gearing up, zeroing in, watching the herds. Luckily we live in a migration path of both species.

That’s awesome Mike good luck! That will be a lot of good meat. Hopefully you can fill them all! :):thumbsup:

I must become less predictable ;)

My HRLM gets and most honourable mention as well !!

I have a gen. 2 Howler that would also be a good choice. Buried in the safe somewhere...

I thought I mentioned it, but maybe I forgot. I have a BT6 strapped to my pack belt with me for the "big" knife while I'm out. ;)

I don’t think you could go wrong with any of those choices Jared but if I had to pick three, I’d go with this combo to give me the greatest diversity.

The BAD already lives in the hunting pack, so these others would be knives to take along and have at camp or in the vehicle. Good choices though!

Well, my archery Elk season kinda sucked. :( First, the animals weren't on the property the first two weekends. Then finally, on the third weekend they were there (woohoo!), and I found them before first light. Unfortunately, some hikers on a trail just off the property really spooked them while I was trying to get into position right at shooting light, and the whole group of ~40 took off running straight up the mountain. Argh!

However, while I was watching them run away, I heard something behind me, turned my head slowly and looked over my shoulder, and there were two small deer 30 yards behind me that had no idea that I was there. The closer one was slightly quartering away from me, but an easily doable shot. However, she turned away right when I shot, and it hit further back than I wanted. No problem though, the arrow enterered just in front of the left rear hip, blew through the liver, a lung, cut two of the main arteries right by the heart, and exited out just behind the front right shoulder. Pretty much a perfect shot given the setup. This side is nice, clean and presentable, but the other side was an absolutely bloody mess. She ran 40 yards and piled up DOA. Consolation prize I guess.

Completely cleaned and butchered that deer with the BAD. Hardly lost its edge, and a quick strop brought it right back to scary sharp! :D When I was taking the backstrap off, I did manage to nick the tip of my pointer finger with the tip of the knife during a blind cut! Trimmed the fingernail, then sliced the tip of my finger pretty good right under the fingernail all the way across my finger, and out the side a bit. OUCH!!! Actually, I barely felt it, and it healed up quick and nicely due to being from such a sharp knife. Made most of butchering a bit more difficult though with a bandaged finger. D'oh! o_O

Unfortunately, while processing the meat the following day, I wrenched my back pretty good picking up the meat grinder, and it laid me up for awhile. No way I was able to hunt the last two weeekends of my elk season. :( What really bummed me was getting some pics from a couple friends last weekend of the nice Bulls they had both gotten on the property (5x6 and 6x6). I should have been there! ARGH!!! :poop:

But I have a buck tag starting middle of next month, for about 5 weeks, and this doe tag was a list "C" here. List "C" tags are unlimited in number so long as licenses are available, so I bought the 2nd to last one shortly after this kill. That tag goes through the end of November, so I still have two tags and plenty of time...

Good luck with the rest of your Hunt. And hope your back heals up fast. Unfortunately, I know the back problems, issues all too well.
Cheers & best of luck,
Surfsidemel

Decisions, decisions.... though everything listed in the poll would be great! I recommend the method used for my recent pronghorn hunt. I placed my BAD, modified Max Duty, a Cultilus, a thined and convexed Scrapivore, and 'ol trusty (Spiderco South Fork) in a circle on the floor, then spun an empty Bacanora bottle in the center. It was pointing at the Max Duty when it stopped...

so I grabbed them all :D (and vowed to use the Max Duty 1st, with the others for back-up)!!! That Elmax holds an edge so well that I never did use any of the others while de-boning the meat and caping... so they each had a turn during the cutting and packing session once home. Your description of the BAD has me inspired to try it in the field next chance, and the light weight and super-thin-slicey-awesome Scrap Max 460 I acquired after the hunt is calling to me as well!

Sorry to hear about your back, missing the end of elk season, and I hope the big bucks pictured cooperate! That 1st one pictured is a BEAST!
