The Artistry of Buck Knives

TAH, I hope your the one who picked up that beauty for that great price:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Already some disagreement on "Custom" or should I say "BUCK CUSTOM" Old and new, or should I say true and new.....

My Buck collection consists of 5 primary categories.

#1 = production knives, I have the least amount of these......

#2 = Limited edition/special run customs, I have a good # of these, but these are not the same as old custom shop and new custom shop knives.....

#3 = Aftermarket Customs, Also have a few of these, Regular Buck knives sent to Leroy Remer, Heath Stone, other Custom makers to be customized after they left Buck. Also not the same as old/new Custom shop knives.

#4 = Old Custom shop, 1981 - 1993, You could request anything you wanted, doesn't mean buck made every request, but they were willing to work with the customer to get as close to what they wanted as possible. When you sent in a request or an order, you would receive a quote from Buck for the cost on anything outside the large array already offered. I like thesed the most and am amazed at what I see:eek::D:D:D:D:D

#5 = New Buck Customs, post 1993, usually one off types or employee service awards made by one of Bucks custom makers(WBC, Jeff Legerton, Joe Houser, etc...) I am certain the new Buck custom makers have the ability to do whatever was done in the old custom shop, but lets face it, with the internet and such, the younger generation isn't into knives like they were in the 1980's and the prime of the custom shop. It would just not be profitable to operate the way they used to. Sure, a few of us Buck nuts would be in heaven ordering a new one every chance we got, but the reality is that we are the few, not the many....I would imagine you could contact Joe Houser and tell him what you are looking for, and he would be able to get you a quote to have Buck or himself(Buck) do it, but I can't imagine anything fancy would be much under a grand+, so, like all things in the world, you can have it if you have money:p, so there are NEW BUCK CUSTOMS being made, just not in the quantities they were in the old days...

OK, I have to address the new online custom shop before I have a bunch of people telling me I left those out....For me, just add them to #1, production knives, just a small upgrade in handle and steel, to me, nothing really too custom about them....

Well, I had a lot of great pictures to show, but the file size is too big to upload, I give up.... sorry.....

I have enjoyed the forum for a few years now and when I started here I was welcomed with warm welcoming arms. I have made some great new friends on here. Now I have to worry about every word I type so not to get lashed back. Who cares what someone calls a custom or not. If it is an original Phrobis stamp or not. If someone mistypes or if their punctuation is correct? Who the hell cares.
This BS has to stop. I for one pretty much stopped posting within the forum and have pretty much stuck to the SPS. If this continues I am pulling the plug. I come here to hear great stories and enjoy the great
knives and discussions like most everyone does. Now it is just lashing out and attacking other persons treasures in just about every thread. What is to be gained by all this??????

I'm at a loss also James, Used to be a really nice place where all were welcome. Maybe we were too welcoming....Back to some cool custom knife pics:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
I think I fixed the sizing issue...we'll see

Guys, I'm backing way off of standing up too strongly, my only intention was to correct a claim that did not seem accurate so new members did not have the wrong impression. I have never intentionally wanted to cross the line. I enjoy this place as well and have made many friends the short time I've been here. I'll continue to support. I flat out dig the customs.

A personal attack will result in fire and fury the world has never seen......:)

Makel, Your not the problem, If everyone was as generous and nice as you with your giveaways and positive attitude, there would be a waiting list to join the Buck section of BF's. Your what we need and want, so don't question yourself one bit....We all get pushed and want to push back, I think we are realizing pushing back is not getting us anywhere.

James, that 103 is indeed handsome. When and who did that? Preston

Preston, That was done by the current Buck Custom Shop for Bass Pro Shops fine gun room. I don't have any information on the exact person who made it and I would need to track down the coa to find out what year it was done.
The 916 I posted a picture of is another that was made for the Bass Pro fine gun room. It was made in 2009 again by the current Buck Custom Shop.

Thanks, I'd been in the local BPS Fine Gun Room before it closed..never did I see any Buck knives displayed. They did have quite a few on display in the regular knife section where they had some limited editions that were for BPS. None as nice as those. Preston

Here is the COA for the 916. Serial number 025-09 meaning this is the 25th knife made for the Bass Pro Shops fine gun room project in 2009. Each knife made was different.
