The "Ask Jo (NinJO) Thread"

I would definitely consider bright G10 on smaller knives, whether it’s orange or lime green or something else similarly bright.

I googled Orange TeroTuf and I’m not sure it’s bright enough to make a big difference to me. As a New Englander it looks awful close to “forest floor orange” for a big chunk of the year.
That's one of the considerations I had; does it stand out enough from fall foliage?

Lime/neon green or something that sticks out equally well in lush greenery, or the Fall yellows, oranges and browns.

Are you guys SURE you want Orange TeroTuf? Nathan is not a big fan. But, we could do orange TeroTuf for Choppers and Orange G10 for smaller knives if there is interest. Please let me know your thoughts...

Thanks!
Jo

I don't really favor brightly colored scales although I can see why someone might want a set for certain use circumstances.

I would think that the actual sales numbers for bright sets would (or will) be in the minority to your more standard scale offerings.

P.S. I really dig the new "double black linen" micarta scales that came on my SDFK from this year's Blade Show '23!

I really need Mexican Blanket micarta, but I recognize I'm probably a minority of one. 🤣

Nope, not the only one. Of course, my wife took possession of these after I got them (one is Mexican Blanket and the other Indian Blanket, if memory serves) - she must like it too. 😁

I like the straight grain stuff rather than the swirl, but they're just so bright and happy... I think GL Hansen's had a Navajo blanket one that was more subdued tones with the same pretty pattern, and I liked that one a lot, too.

I think for the big knives and TeroTuff the bright green is good for visibilty. I do like orange T.T. but as far as visibility ... the bright green shows up much better than orange.

For smaller knives as much as I love micarta I would jump at a set of bright G10 to use put on for use in the woods or fields. It's way brighter and doesn't discolor much no matter what you get on it.

That said I'll still buy the burlap micarta scales too! :)

Thanks for looking into options Jo!

EDIT: just a shameless plug in case all options are being considered ... not for bright colors, but I'd love to see some of the green shadetree burlap.

And just a thought. Some bright orange liners would add to visibility without changing the scale material if you aren't thrilled about scale changes. I put blaze orange lanyards on my choppers and a HDFK (while using them to clear a bunch) and that's saved me from searching a couple of times.

Oh I really like this idea. Blaze orange G10 liners under Terotuf feels like the best of both worlds.

Jo the Machinist Jo the Machinist , remember Dave loving on the knives at the Keystone Cut during our little tailgate knife show and him asking if you had any SDFK’s left? Well he and I kept in touch after the cutting competition since I said I could hook him up and this one is in route! You’ll have to find out what he’s bashed it through and how he likes it next time you see him!

Hi Jo,

I’m catching up on some neglected threads. When did you start offering taco sheaths, do you have any for sale and if so for what models? Also how much?
Taco sheaths are available with the pre-orders upon request. I don't tend to keep many in stock additionally. Currently I have some on hand for the DEK3 but that's it.
