The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Do you want Tim Reeve knocking down your door...? Because that's how you get Mr. Reeve knocking down your door, lol. He doesn't take kindly to his father's knives being rebladed...
They should sell replacement blades in Magnacut. Send in your Sebenza or Inkosi and have the blade replaced with Magnacut for a reasonable fee.😁

Really? Why?

I can imagine if someone wanted to make replacement parts for my work (upgrades), I might feel a little bit embarrassed or offended, but I couldn't imagine putting blame on someone for making aftermarket parts?

Seriously. Can someone explain this to me? I don't understand it.

I read that desist letter from Chris for the first time the other day. I get it and can empathize with not wanting someone jacking with your work, but uggghhhh.

Talk about Chipped Metal. It looks serrated after a few weeks without a touch up.
There is a cease and desist letter for this? Oh my god.

You betcha. Reddit is a citable source for verification, right?! I've certainly never seen anything bias or fabricated circulating there........ Can't link it apprantly, but a quick "Chris Reeve automatic cease and desist" on Google will get ya there.

*Edit* I'll totally buy a reblade if you make one. List my address as the drop ship location and I'll deal the Reeve Jr. I've got a decent lawyer and generally try to spend all my liquid assets before someone finds them anyway. I got ya brah. - read- I stay broke by buying stuff from Cpk. That juice ain't worth the squeeze to him.

I wish I knew... I reached out Chris Reeve Knives first and offered to pay a crazy amount of money to have a one off DamaCore reblade done (with me even providing the material), because I thought there might be a chance they'd be interested since it'd never been done. They respectfully declined. I then sent messages to over a dozen makers and most people just said they didn't do Sebenza reblades (I've been told by a couple of makers that the pivot bushing is a pain). One maker got back to me and said that Chris Reeve Knives had just reached out to them, reminding them not to mod their knives. A second maker got back to me and said that Tim was a friend and had asked him not to mod their knives, but agreed to do three other reblades for me (and did a great job)... He then later asked Tim for his blessing for my specific job and Tim told him no. He didn't expand on why.

A maker finally agreed to do the reblade for me... But we're coming up on a year next month, so who knows if that'll end up happening. I've had this sitting on a shelf for over a year now. :(

On the other end of that spectrum... I asked Spartan Blades about having a Damasteel blade done, and they told me they don't do reblades, but that they would LOVE to see pictures if I find someone to do the work. They then did a crazy amount of engraving and anodizing to my knife for a whopping $25. Great company.

There’s a sweet spot right now for reblades on the Demko AD20.5
Very many who want this option, no one yet who offers it as it’s fairly new.
Lower cost of entry for the customer ($150 for the initial complete knife).
New strong Demko lock that comes in a lower grade steel (AUS10A). Eventually more steels will be offered but not at the moment, except for a small amount of D2 so far.
Grivory scales from the factory but aftermarket offers micarta and others.

A CPK D3V, Magnacut, or whichever steel Nathan thought was best would be a HELL of a package for a reasonable cost.

I think you would sell as many as you could pump out too.
And become famous overnight in the folder world.
And provide some busy work for one of your machines without having to worry about also making scales, assembly work, etc. Just make one version and produce the hell out of it.

I’m trying really hard to sell you on this. Can you tell?

It would be so, so good in MagnaCut or 4V! Mine's sporting Micarta scales already.... I've been trying to wait out a new steel offering, but I've already been considering a reblade, lol. AUS10A just doesn't cut it. I bet there are tons of others out there in the same boat.

I don't see how any knife maker can prevent someone else from doing aftermarket work on their knife. That's like a car manufacturer telling you that you can't change out your radio or car mats.

Obviously, I'm not talking about someone doing a reblade with an Emerson Wave or adding a Hinderer Stabilizer to it.

Yeah don't get it either. Only thing they should be able to do is void the warranty and refuse to work on it if it is sent in.
