The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Open to answers from anyone.

I closed my PayPal account recently, would rather live without it. I'm in the UK, what are my options to pay CPK for a SDFK?

Thanks
I believe you can use PayPal as a guest and pay with credit card. Unfortunately I think that's about the only way I'm comfortable receiving international payment.

Is the SDFK the next knife up for sales?

Trying to hold my knife money for that or a DEK 1

We will continue to have the UF2 for a while and add some double edged fighters and a few K18s into the mix. There will be the last of the 5" Basic Field knife (both regular and ghetto ground) pretty soon. After that will be the 7" SDFK and perhaps a small quantity of Basic Field knives in Cruwear.

Later this summer we're looking to start the DEK1,2,3 and some other projects. Steel is being made now.

Will there be Friday sales of the UF2 with more than 5 at a time in the near future?
You can always request a proxy.

Although the Notta Katana may be in the distant future, do you have any rough ideas what you want it to look like regarding blade length and handle length?

And mostly curious what you’re thinking for the blade height and thickness.

Thank you.

No lanyard hole on the SDFK?

Will there be various scale options?

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist do you have a preferred blade shape for everyday tasks? Clip point? Warnie? Bowie? Spey? Tanto? Etc.
I like it relatively straight with the belly out towards the tip. I like a substantial amount of belly. The old D2 skinner is my favorite blade shape. I like the FK2 and the basic 5 also.

I like the blade shape of every knife I've made, obviously, but I would say my least favorite of my production would be the potato knife. It's very useful for a kitchen knife but I don't particularly like that blade shape in an EDC.

I do not like recurves. They have their place. The kukri will have some recurve and I am considering some recurve on my next integral. But an EDC is most functional nearly straight with belly near the point.

The edge profile of the Kephart is quite good.

Can we please not trash talk Guy in here. I am rooting for his success and you should be too. I have not been following all of the drama, I know some mistakes were made. I understand the bad blood but at the end of the day he's an American manufacturer who's trying to make it. And I hope he does.
I was too, for a looooong time. But after 7 years of being spun along with fantasy timelines, it's just too much. I've never subscribed to the "Guy's a conman, just out to rip people off" theory. But at this point, the most charitable explanation is that they're still having cash flow problems that are leading them to focus on new orders while the longest-standing ones are just left to twist in the wind. Even orders that they've said are some of the oldest on their books and should be finished first, which were built half a year ago and "just need to be sharpened and boxed", which they personally guaranteed to ship this week last December and again in February. Yep, I'm done.

As for the switch from D3V, it's clear it doesn't work for their manufacturing process, and that's fair enough. But it's also emblematic of their lack of transparency (again, to put it politely). They marketed around the use of D3V. They still show the logo on their instagram page. But they made the switch a while back, and then long after the fact, they've posted a video about it to their private FB group that only the diehard fans can access.

I won't say anything more on the matter, and if that counts as bashing, feel free to delete it. But it's cheaper to vent here than hiring a therapist. Now someone pass me my smelling salts!

Nathan, could you provide a status update on the 6" Utility Fighter 2 pre-order? Coming up on ten months and I'm wondering if you're still on track to ship these within a year (which would be the end of May). I know a ton of them have been shipped already, just wondering where you are in the process with the rest of them. Thanks!

NVM - I scrolled back a few pages and found a pretty good status update. Thanks.

We should have the first double edged heat treated next week. That was a bit of a bottleneck.

There were a few ordered in AEBL that won't be done, there's not enough for a load. I still need to figure those out. But I think the vast majority will done without too much trouble.
