The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Well a drill bit cross section would look a bit like a twisted cross if that’s the joke you were going for.
So,...that would be a drill "bit"...

I've used Mosaic pin on some wood working projects. Wouldn't it be a huge pain in the ass to cut a hardened drill bit when you are cutting the pin to length? I'm using a dremel cutting disc andi it's not a quick process.

I vaguely remember this knife maker making a knife for his wife, with scale pins including dried breast milk .... To each his own, I guess.

PS: Found the knife, not necessarily the pins, who knows ...: Cheese knife

Alright, Blues Blues , for good measure, here is a question for Nathan:

Nathan, since you explained that the SDFK was heat treated at Peters using your recipe, do the blades warp for them sometimes, and do you know what they do with the blades if that happens ?

Thanks.
I'm reminded of Van Cleef in For a Few Dollars More. Was the question indiscrete? No, but the answer could be.
Actually I PMed this question to Nathan recently to avoid the whole torch straightening can of worms. Nathan replied that they don't do that for CPK and they have their own protocol.

This reminds me of a video I saw years ago and reminds me to ask Nathan. I can't remember who the guy was but he's an old-school guy that makes knives and swords by hand. I tried to find him a while back and couldn't find his videos.

Anyway, he uses a long oil bath to quench his long knives and swords horizontally rather than dipping it vertically in an oil drum or bucket. He said that if your horizontal quench is aligned directly to magnetic North and South, and you quench the blade with the tip of the blade pointing to magnetic North, and the handle end pointing magnetic South of course, that the blade will not warp. Have you heard about that Nathan, and is there any truth to it? Thanks.
