knoefz knoefz Why does the Core stove have those extra panels at the mouth? Is there an advantage to that? I have the Emberlit, and it just has a hole there.

It's called the rocket port. It helps a good draft, keeps flames better inside, supports twigs to get better in position inside.
Here's a quote from MSP:
The Rocket Port is an optional module designed to increase the performance of the unit by increasing its draft length. The rocket port sucks heat and flames from fuel burning near or outside the fuel port opening that would normally escape, into the burn chamber and directs it towards the cooking surface. The port can also help keep your pot handles cool, keep rain or snow off your fuel and even dry damp fuel as its slowly fed into the unit.

I only use it when I also install the afterburner plates inside (and also tlud plate on the top, (that's my favoritesetup of the stove)). For a normal burning mode (like the Emberlit) I notice not much difference.
