The Beer Scout Knife

I wish they had made some Beerlows on latest run of 15s.

Wait, is this factory or mod? Amazing...

Just curious - where did
The beer scout is what drew me to GEC. From what I understand they won’t make anymore. Should have bought more than the one I have, but at least I have one.
you read that GEC won’t make them anymore? That’s a huge bummer

It was something to do with the boyscouts getting their panties in a bunch and threatening to sue. I’m sure GEC will make the knife again, or something similar but to avoid headaches, it won’t be called anything “Scout”.

I think that’s probably why they did something like the recent 85’s. It also might be why on that last beer scout run they also made cap lifters without the bail and shield. Maybe they shifted gears mid production?

The pattern that started the obsession for me as well. I've owned a dozen or so over the years, gave a bunch away at my wedding, down to about 6 now, I think.

It's not the term "Scout" that was an issue, it was the name "Beer Scout Knife" which infringed on the name "Boy Scout Knife." You can scroll back a few years and see the legal notices but basically BSA carefully protects the name as they receive hefty licensing fees/royalties from knife manufactures who want to build an official Boy Scout Knife. I think most of us who bought BSKs new understood that GEC's naming of the Beer Scout Knife was a little satirical jab at things, completely non-malicious. The "Club Membership" and the subsequent lawsuit along with GEC's response including the dropping of the name and the removal of images from their website makes these lovely knives all the more special. If you also scroll back a few years, you will find this photo of my collection of BSKs and BSK Club Glasses and pins.

I think we might need to sticky that great post at the top of this thread. Although, I don’t think it was a lawsuit, iirc it was a notice of objection to a trademark application.
