The Beer Scout Knife

Though I don't drink beer, I think the stamping "Beer Scout" is great. It's what the knife is even if you don't use it for that. It makes it unique and it does have a special tool that most likely will end up opening up 95% beers.
When you buy a knife such as an original KaBar, you're buying a "Combat Knife". You probably won't be taking out sentries with it but it's still a Combat Knife.

Evan, you should register the trademark and put the ® symbol next to the "Beer Scout" name. I've seen it on the WSLT's :thumbup::cool:

I am finally getting caught up after all the traveling. It's very exciting to have so many options. I'll say it again, I appreciate all that many on this forum do to help promote, support and develop the traditional knives. I am looking forward to see what GEC delivers. It's going to be a long wait.

Fair enough, ya'll . . . I should probably clarify that my objection to Beer Scout being displayed on the knife (which is not strenuous by any means . . . else I wouldn't have committee to one), does not have anything to do with not liking beer. To the contrary, I see this knife living up to its name.

I'm not a beer drinker, but I'm on the list for one of the beer scouts (as well as a "soda" scout). I think it's cool to have both. Many antique knives have unique names on the shields.

One use for the soda scout is to open those Coke (with cane sugar like the old days) bottles you can buy in Mexican grocery stores.

We have those in our regular stores around here as well. With careful shopping, you can find the superior cola pop in a glass bottle with a crown cap: Pepsi!

;)

I'm going with a beer scout for beer and a regular micarta scout for the truly superior drink, Dublin Dr Pepper.

I'd like to see someone produce a Half Scout. Like merging an old Ulster scout/camper and Victorinox bantam. One layer with spear blade (or sheepsfoot) on one end and screwdriver/caplifter tool on the other. One spring. Equal end cigar shape with nickel bolsters. Or think of it as an IRJ or boys knife with a caplifter opposite the blade. It would be the miller lite version of the beer scout - less filling - same great taste.

We have both in glass bottles here at our store! But, I prefer Coke over Pepsi lol.

Well, this rookie is thankful for this thread...I think I've figured out how to get in on these mystery SFOs!

I rather enjoy the prospect of the "Beer Scout" label. That should probably be my nickname!

Whoa! Them's fightin words!

J/K!! - Although I do feel Coke is superior..... it's not as sweet. Either way, the Beer Scout is sure to pop all the tops!

Man Barry, your SFO variation on this one sounds awesome, my favorite of the bunch, i'll certainly keep an eye out for it.

Are you sure it wasn't the other way 'round, GEC's version first, then Evan's making it happen for so many others?

(I'd say, "Correct me if I'm wrong," but there's no danger of that not happening 'round here. :D)

No matter what the order, I'm glad to have jumped on the last of these at GEC's Rendezvous...

... and am excited for everyone else who can now grab a variation of the same. :)

firmly in the Bail Camp

Just popped back in to chicken eye this knife again... :D

SInce I'm a big fan of beautiful woods, I'm going with Brazilian Bloodwood (brosimum rubescens) covers and smooth bow-tie shield (with no printing) on this model. Should be very pretty, as the wood is a relative of Satine and Snakewood.

Barry...are you special ordering these?

I noticed the bolsters on this run of 15s is listed as nickel silver, am I wrong or is this the first time the 15s are being made with nickel silver bolsters? Personally I prefer the iron bolsters used on the previous runs, but the nickel silver is alright too. Sure would like to see them put stainless steel bolsters on but perhaps that would be cost prohibitive.

Ron, yes, he is placing an SFO for his Brazilian Bloodwoods, and I can't wait!!

P&G, the only other time they have put NS bolsters and brass liners on the 15 frame was for Charlie's Diamond Series Radio Jack, and HJ7(run simultaneously in Spring of '14). Every other 15 has had mild steel bolsters and liners. Very close to iron, but not quite there.
