The beginnings of a BK 5 tanto...DONE!

I received a BK 5 to mod into a tanto from a member and he wanted photos of the projects progress sooooo, I thought a thread would get the job done. I am about half way done and will update as things move along. I wrapped the handle up because it is micarta which can absorb the oils from skin/other goobers so i try to minimize contact. You all know what the 5 looks like so I didn't take a "before" picture. :)
Stage 1 - bringing the tanto tip up and decreasing the belly to make the primary edge and tanto edge meet up at an angle.

Done! Bevels and sharpening tomorrow or the next day. This one is going to look a little different than Nick's knife, you will soon see why. :)

Looks cool so far, I like Nick's..I had the pleasure of seeing it in person...excellent work. I am kinda curious to see a tanto 15 now.

I dislike tantos....but the work is superb. :D I can enjoy seeing other people's tantos LOL
 
Coming along just fine I see. Now if one can mirror polish it with a forced "fake" hamon line and a stingray wrapped handles.
 
Albert, thanks for taking the time to post up on the bk5 I sent you. I cannot wait to see the finished product. Looks great so far!! A few more surprises for the forum members are definately to come!!
 
That is a BAMF Knife sir!

Are you sharpening the swedge? That would make it even more of a nice fighter.
 
(putting her hand up) Okay...noob question for you. :) What is the purpose of making the blade like that? Is it better for something then say the regular blade? Once again...no pointing and laughing at me. ;)
 
I usually hate tantos, but the thought of a BK5 tanto is pretty impressive! I think I may end up doing this in the future.

MsNaughtyIrish - No laughing here! Bladeforums is great place for knowledge exchange, much better than other forums IMO. The tanto's blade design makes it a mean penetrator.

I want some kind of modern material for the handle, such as Kraton, Zytel, etc., rather than a wrapped or wood handle. When I said more modern, I was referring to BFE's post about having a wrapped handle.

And thank you for the welcome.
