Well here it is so far. Thanks to everyone for all the help. Now I just have to build my kmg, lug my drill press down from the garage. Build my other band saw. And then I can start the fun work:D

The following pic is the cause of the delay in getting started. I had to dig out all this crap left here by other people. And dismantle and lug out a pool table. Now I can slowly feed this pile to the garbage men so they dont have a coronary.

Cool looks like you are going to have a decent amount of space. My shop is a 10x12 shed which I hit my head on the roof beams, but you know it works and I have all the space I need for now! How does that Harbor Freight band saw work you?

It looks remarkably similar to my current shop until I move into my new house next week. The dust inside sucks but it sure is easy to find a half hour to get to the grinder and work on things.

When you get a shop, it's a super shop compared with not having one. I thought I had a great shop and it was about 8' X 8'It sure was for a long time. Frank

Yeah I actually have a ton of space. The pic is only showing one corner. I have probably 5x that area cleaned out and ready. But the whole basement is available to me and its a huge dusty space lol. The harbor freight saw i literally built 10 minutes before taking that pic. At this point it's a love hate relationship lol. I love it because it works and will do what I need no problem. I hate it because the idiots that made it wrote the worst assembly instructions I've ever come across. It was like having a person who's never seen the tool try to tell you how to assemble it. So after reading things that were wrong or finding left out info. Or info from other models I finally put down the instructions and used common sense. Built it fine after that. It's together, has a good new blade, and cuts well. So I'm happy.

looking good, that will be a fine shop.
(just a thought: more lights!)

Yup definitely. Right now I have one area thats well lit. I need to throw up a few fixtures. I also still need to run 220 for my kmg. I know it runs on either but more horses from 220.

Anyone notice the ninja turtle hiding behind my work bench on the wall lol? The basement was once a game room for my little cousin so theres a bunch of cartoon characters on the walls that my uncle painted years ago.

Looks like my 1st shop. I have a few suggestions for you, get more light and repaint the walls with another coat of bright white now before you fill it up. This will help more than you can imagine with spreading light around.
As soon as possible get a squirrel cage blower and attach it to the window and wire it to come on when you turn on the lights. This will keep the air in your shop cleared out making it better for your lungs as well as keeping dust from getting on everything.

Have fun..

Yeah I was thinking about dust collection and ventilation. I do have a respirator but it's super dusty down there.

Good start. If you can vent the dust outside instead of collecting it, it will makes things a whole lot easier.
I would also suggest painting the floor now, a whole lot easier then when it is full.

I am only 30 minutes from you in Windham if you need anything. Come over and check out my shop if you like.

Painting would be nice but it's gonna have to wait. My budget is spent lol. But eventually ill do it. For now it's ninja turtles and chipped paint.

Rocketman, I may want to take you up on that offer sometime. I'm basically researching, asking advice online and learning as I go. So I'm sure some questions may come up.

As far as dust removal. When searching I saw a nice set up that used a blower and ducts to vent directly outside. I'd like to set something like that up

My setup is almost exactly like the one that Patrice has except I ran the duct work under my bench to the blower. If you like I have a spare blower that I'm not using. It's yours if you want it.

Flat white paint will reflect about 85% of the light.
It's more cost effective than adding more lights if you haven't already done it.

Check with your local dump and websites like free cycle - craigslist - that sort of thing.
There is a push on to recycle and giveaway paint to avoid hazardous goods treatment.
White is the most popular colour, so jump on it if you find it

Perhaps even an ad - offere to swap that pool table or box of books for white paint.

I'd paint the ceiling and floor too- easier to find that thing you dropped - just don't expect the floor to stay clean, or be surprised if it peels.

Yeah you got a point about finding dropped items. The house I live in is pretty old and the concrete isn't in the best condition leaving a pockmarked surface which seems to swallow small dropped items.

I have heard that you can use the slate from pool tables as a surface plate. If that is true you have one big surface plate! Enjoy that shop!
