The best "bang for your buck" company.

As I see this same knives cost same price - if it is premium steel - ATS-34 or CPM S30V etc and G10 or Micarta - price the same for all companies (check CRKT Wasp or Spyderco Terzula). And if knife has plastic handle - it is cheap (see Benchmade pika).

Spyderco on major models offers bestest blade possible with everithing else as chip as possible for quality bnife (FRN etc).
CRKT make handles with better materials but blades are not from premium steel.
And both have almost same prices.

Benchmade now making pretty affordable knives with plastic handles too.
It looks like really hard to say this about some or aother producer, but really depends on model and dealer also.

Buck Mini Strider on New Grapham cost $99 - under $100, it is really good deal for blade with Bos HT. Also Cabela's D2 Grip or Kershaw Random Leek - CPM S30V for promotional $70 price (too late already) on Chesapeake Knife & Tool or Fallkniven U2 with laminated blade with Japanies analog of CPM S30V in core 64HRC on knifeoutlet...

Thanks, Vassili.

It's more model-related than company related. Spyderco has some very good low-end knives, specifically the Delica, Endura, Dragonfly, etc.

But has everyone forgotten Griptillians and minigrips, as well as the new (and very well renown) Ambush from Benchmade?

I'm going to go with spyderco, because you can get some of their knives for very little money and they are great. Like the meerkat. I got 3 of them oin a trade deal and I see them sell used for around 20 and new for 32 I believe. Anyway, it turns out to be a HELL of a little blade. that's for folders,

fixed blade.. SWamp Rat, cheap, tough as hell, lifetime no BS warranty.

Great thread!

Himalayan Imports! For under $200, they have a huge selection of Stamp-resistant (nothing's truly Stamp-proof) khukris.

Thems guys and Spyderco.

The individual knife with the best bang for the buck is the Cold Steel Bushman.

The best "make" for economy is a tossup between Ontario and Camillus.

Among higher end stuff, the best bang for the buck is found in any of the Finnish knives that KELLAM sells.

Spyderco for sure, no better value for under $100 for the whole line from a company that falls in that price range.

Ontario Knife deserves an honorable mention, particularly for their machetes.

SAK is good, but for the same money or less in a slip joint I prefer Case. I have no need for the extra tools because I carry a multi-tool. I have found the SAK tools to be minimally effective compared to most multi-tools.

Why has nobody mentioned Opinel? I have no experience with them but they seem to be decent for minimum $$'s.

Interesting thread, thanks.

Chris

Altough I agree with most of what everyone is saying, My vote is for CRKT! Paul

IMO, Spyderco is THE company where you'll get the best bang for your buck. :D

For example, the Endura/Delica FRN models fall into the $40-$50 price range and provide the ELU with a premium steel blade of VG10. I haven't seen other blades in VG10, being produced by other companies, that are in this same price range. The S30V FRN Native is also another great deal that provides the user with a great product and a premium steel.

Along with their awesome Spydies come, what I believe to be, the best warranty on the market. (Next to the no BS warranty from Swamp Rat Knife Works.;))

I hadn't even heard of Outdoor Edge or BRK&T - I feel uneducated. I couldn't find the Blackwood fixed blade on their site, much to my disapointment as I need a new fixed blade (managed to break my Kabar  ).

the Blackwood fixed blade can be seen here:

Outdoor Edge Blackwood

Both Spyderco and Benchmade have a myriad of models which sell well below $100 and have excellent quality. In fact, it has been hard for me to see the value in going much over $100 for a quality folder.

Queen and Schrade. Camillus has some nice cheaper offerings, but they also have some knives that are incredibly overpriced.

Swamp Rat for fixed blades. Definately the most bang for the buck there. I only own one folder, a large classic Sebbie, so that really doesn't enter into this discussion. If you can't afford, or want to spend the $$$ for Busse, get a Rat.

I don't know about companies as a whole, but I have some individual knives I think are bargains. I have mixed feelings about CRKT, but I do like my Prowler, and it has been a good knife for me. My Buck 110 has also been a very good value.

There is a Swamp Rat in my future, but right now as far as a fixed-blade goes, my 12-year-old Cold Steel SRK and been a steady workhorse, and I think I paid about $35.00 for it.

Victorinox hands down. No other company comes close to the repeatable, perfect manufacturing that they do. And you can get a very useful model for less than $20 that you can accomplish way more with than a 'tactical'.

There is no better bang for the buck than Opinel, and Mora fixed blades.

Given price, quality, and extent of the lineup-Camillus is the overall winner, I think. That may or may not hold for any particular knife
