The Best Discontinued Production Knives

Buck 120 keeps going in-and-out of production; it's mostly been on the out side for decades. The most recent release had some useless etch covering the entire blade face. "Hunt Fair Chase." What the heck does that even mean?

It's a limited edition, for Boone & Crockett. It means you should be sporting about hunting. I don't like the etch either, but I dislike any large words on a blade.

I hope it's OK to go in a different direction and offer the Cold Steel Light Terrain Chopper (LTC) as a classic which never should have died. It was 17" and 17 oz. of large knife perfection. It carries and works effortlessly, but cuts more efficiently than any other large blade I've owned. It's 1/8" blade made it work wonderfully for brush, but it also sliced through limbs like a light saber. It was also bullet proof. Mine works very well with the original edge, but many folks have reprofiled them and been flat out slack-jawed at what it can do. If CS re-introduced this model in SK-5 or 0-1 at a reasonable price, I think they'd sell truckloads. There would also be a lot fewer people bad mouthing khukuri machetes;)

The Boone and Crockett Club?

My 120 has the Pro-Line etch, so it was from Cabela's.

The original Spyderco Persian. I have one that rides in my pocket every day and I'd like to get a few more just to have. I realize they still make a version but it's not nearly as good looking a knife as the original.

I with you 100% It's a great looking knife with some of the best ergos ever!

I traded into a Lg barely used original persian and I was very impressed with the build quality... So impressed that I had to get the smaller version. Really great knives. Not easy to find...in any condition.

Benchmade Aphid...

Totally agree with you re: the BM Aphid. I balked when these were plentiful due to the so-so 440C steel but I love small 2.5" to 3" EDC blades and the Aphid had great ergos and F & F, like a mini-mini-Griptillian...but sadly I waited too long.

I also regret not getting a Spyderco Rock Lobster when they were around...always loved that blade shape. In fact...I'm hoping Spyderco goes ahead w/Marcin Slysz's "SpydeChef" since it seems to be a very similar upscale Ti frame-lock version of the Lobster. That one won't get by me!

Of the ones I own, Benchmade Mini-Skirmish, Spyderco 440V SE Military, 440V SE Native, Captain.

Of the ones I want to own, Benchmade Mini-Rukus, Spyderco Khukuri, Barong.

The most useful Victorinox model, I actually need it for work, is the Stylus. It's been discontinued for years, and there's no alternative or replacement model.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Schrade no longer makes Old Timer knives. Those were an American standard for over 40 years.

Luckily the 120 General is back again this year. Both in the standard black phenolic handleñ and in the cocobola dymondwood handle :)

Cold steal Voyagers, the previous generation of VG-1 lockback goodness, i hate that i never bought more than the largest one
Spyderco ATR titanium, dang yo

Spyderco Superhawk and Spyderco SpyderHawk get my vote
And now that I have been more educated. Spyderco ATR and Benchmade 630 Skirmish
