The best fake by far

Maybe someone collects fakes? Stranger things have happened.

Or it's a shill to try and drive interest / legitimize the item.

Funny thing is, most of these sellers have high feedback[/QUOT

The guy on ePrey most famous HERE for putting together traditional folders from mis-matched parts has 100% feedback or pretty close.

Those in the know avoid him and his Frankenknives.

Those who don't know are happy.

Generally it's the most popular but sometimes it seems like a random choice, like the gunting. For the record I've never seen a fake Endura or Delica.

Endura and Delica copies almost bankrupted us in 2003. They didn't say Spyderco and they had large round thumbstuds designed to look like a hole in the ads. We could buy them in our local supermarket for $5. We came very close to closing the doors.

I actually bought one of those way back in the day. Wish I would have known then what I know now.

They were everywhere, big blister packs in every foreign owned gas station and flea market.

And I think I can speak for everyone when I say thank God that did not happen.

It's sad to hear of these issues, especially sad to think it nearly ended a company like Spyderco early on. It really bothers me that in some countries there appears to be no way to product your products from these types of issues internationally.

What I find more concerning as of late though is usually in years past when I saw a fake it was obvious, it was super cheap in a gas station etc. and it was obviously very cheaply made, didn't have the right logos etc. You could not even really call it a "copy" except in the most general way. These new versions from the pictures and reports/reviews appear to be made from very high quality materials and production methods, perhaps not quite up to the quality of the actual item but very close and very difficult to spot even for an unaware knife person.

What I'm surprised we have not seen more of, as more and more companies shift production overseas, is those production facilities selling the actual product "out the back door". I can remember when Arcteryx was only made in Canada, never saw a fake/counterfeit problem but as soon as Solomon bought them out and shipped production to China (retail prices stayed the same of course) almost overnight there were Arcteryx fakes and unauthorized new authentic items on ebay being sold, and still are.

I suppose for the knife industry it should be a compliment, it would appear that high end production knives have now joined the world of considered by the general population to be an overpriced fashion accessories like sunglasses, purses, and watches and as a result have caught the eye of serious counterfeiters as a product they can make tons of money selling a close copy of at a fraction of the price.

I remember those in Australia in those years, retailed from between A$15-30 in a lot of big name mainstream outdoors shops, I suspect they contributed to the current Australian governments general phobia of one handed openers and Spyderco folders in particular.

Ironically cheap fakes lead to a lot of young "toughs" buying knives for illegitimate use - and knife crime rising. If they actually stopped the fakes from coming in everyone especially actual users would have been better off. My A$0.02 thought.

Careful guys when buying on "The Bay". One of the big Chinese websites now has a Brad Southard knock off now. I also saw a Ti Millie fake for the first time, and it looked pretty passable. Scary stuff.

Reported here too. Sometimes you can't help but wonder why ebay is run like an abomination. So many illegal items go through there and the reports they do get are pretty much ignored, unless a large company with a truckload of lawyers contacts them.

It's sad Rev but sometimes the only one that gets their attention is the knife company itself.I have got their attention only a few times reporting fakes but when the knife company puts them on notice they finally take action.

I think the best thing to do and what I do when I see a fake is send a link with a short note about what it is and why you are contacting them to the legitimate manufacturer of the knife. It seems to work well with Spyderco. I will keep doing what I can to keep you guys in business, Sal.
