The best fake by far

Yes the seller replied to my question. Told them it was a fake and how to tell.

"oh wow thanks for the heads up"

I see they slipped that little addition to the description in there rather than change it completely or take it down. Now I have to report it.

That's just crazy.
There's no way that I would be able to tell that it's a fake by looking at it.
Is that a knife that ordinarily does not lock?

Yep the authentic UKPKs are drilled for LH/RH carry, this one is only RH

Why are Spins copied so often?

There is also a Caly 3.5 wannabe available. It's disgusting but what's new. Only "positive" out of this is a company must be doing something good to be pirated like this. Nevermind that is not a positive.

Sent that seller a message with the link to the fake Spin pics on the Spyderco forum. We shall see what happens. Got a seller to take down a fake UKPK today.

Not sure why either. Doesn't seem like an incredibly popular model. Would think they'd copy the endura/delica/paral-military since it is really common. That or the rare/rarer models.

+1 on that. Hopefully can fix another.

Not sure if I missed it earlier in the thread, also can't see the auctions now, but what is give away that the spins were fake?

The two biggest ways to tell the real from the fake are the clip screws and the markings. On the fakes the clip screws are hex head rather that Torx and also too far apart. The blade markings on the fakes are etched rather than stamped into the metal.

Do you really think if they got it 98% right they couldn't tweak it to get the other 2%.

I will say that the handle finishes between the real and fake are also different.

Edited to add

I don't think pointing the differences out here is detrimental at all. The companies that make these fakes aren't targeting knife enthusiasts. I am sure they target a much broader audience of the uninformed consumer.

Trying to help fakers get it "right"?

Of course. There would be nothing better than my favorite knife manufacturer being put out of business.

Just want to educate myself to avoid buying fake goods. Though I guess I could go on oblivious and not ask....

Not talking about how to spot a fake knife is like not talking about how easy it is to pick a lock or bypass a security mechanism. If you don't know, it simply keeps you in lala land and oblivious to the fact that you may be no safer than if there were no locks. Understanding things levels the playing field. The fakers know what they're doing and are obviously hoover dam close to getting it the other 2% like rycen mentioned. Figuring out how to spot a fake will keep us from buying the crap and hopefully keep others from doing the same, at least unwillingly.

Absolutely - so long as you tell them what changes to make, as you seem Hell bent on doing.

If you don't want to buy fakes: 1) don't buy from sellers without an established reputation for integrity; 2) if it's too good to be true . . . .

Have any of the fakes pointed out here been put on the market by reputable dealers? Or are most from Giant Nnife Deeler in Hope Kong?
