Some interesting news from Canal Street Cutlery!!

Wally at CSC has been trying to get our small bomb shields made, but cannot find anyone to do them in a timely fashion.
(It was an odd Shield that Eric pulled out of an archival box.) The reliable old company Wally used to contract shields and dies has changed hands very recently and will not make them! He is trying elsewhere, but we may have to use a substitute! (Groan!!!!)
I know, I know! After our poll and choice . . . . . . . . .

Here is what Wally proposes:
He has this old die set from his Schrade days (nice historical element!) and can go ahead with it if we O.K. it.
Similar size and shape . . . . . . .

Here are some actual installations in old Schrades that I managed to dig out:

If we agree with this, we keep the connection to the "real" Schrades of old, so it seems to fit what we do here, but it's up to you all!

Should we do it????

My opinion may not count here as I did not have anything to do with the voting of this years knife at all. I do however think the second choice Shield is the better looking Shield.

Not to light a spark, but is the bow tie (the runner up in the poll) not an option?

If not, I say rock the 2nd option to start the build.

I like both shields, but I actually like the newer one better.

I would not like to see another poll - especially if you cannot limit it to only those with "skin in the game." I would prefer if you could just go with the new shield and if there is anyone for whom this becomes a deal breaker, they can have a couple of days to rescind their order.

Thanks for all of your work on this. Sorry that you ran into this extra heartburn.

The first one looks like a pineapple IMHO

Hah, indeed it does kinda and looking at the option on the table, I think that isn't bad at all, ignore the suggestion of a new poll, I say go with this 'other' bomb,

ONE question I have from the images of those installed, they appear to be fairly proud of the covers, will Wally and crew have them more flush than those???

Looks fine to me, and I like the historical connection.

It looks close enough to the one that won the shield poll, I can't imagine it being a deal breaker, but perhaps a new poll would make sure no one feels left out of a decision. Especially if they have already ordered one.

Thanks for all you do.

I don't know whats happening, but this sounds interesting. Can someone link me to the "original" thread for this? Or just provide background here.

I did order one of the knives and using the old style Schrade shield looks just fine to me. I'm good with you using your judgement Charlie. OH

Maybe someone else can quote the "links".

Briefly, it is an extended process to choose our annual knife. Weeks of discussion and polls to ensure some democracy has led to the first knife I posted above. We have it all lined up, with the snag being the shield.
You can order one or more of these knives up in the " sticky ordering thread"
at the beginning of this "traditional forum"! Welcome!

Thanks for the comments to date everyone. Wally is chomping at the bit to get these knives assembled, but the shield is holding up the works. A quick decision will help a lot!

I actually like the "new" bomb shield better than any that we actually got to vote on. However, my support doesn't count because I'm not ordering one (sorry, just don't like the wood).

The newly offered shield will look great on my two forum knives:)

Edit to add: Instead of creating more work and headaches for yourself Charlie, how about you make an executive choice? You have spent enough time and dealt with enough whining and debating from us! Just make the call and we will have to trust you:thumbup:

The Schrade shield looks good to me, Charlie. I think the historical connection is cool.

The "new" old Schrade shield looks great on this pattern. (And will match a few in my collection). Works for me.
