Some of you have knew immediately what knife I was talking about! I just aquired this knife and I'm very pleased to add it to my collection. Even at Cabelas retail price it's the best deal going!! A classic drop point skinner in S30V and Rosewood handle. Can any body show me a better skinner value?

That's great Flatlander if you want a fixed blade. In the same league for value and price is the S30V rosie folding Kalinga, I think.

I was thinking of Fixed blades. Didn't want to muddy up the water with 110s, Folding Kalingas, Folding Alphas...all great knives but not what I think of when I consider a skinner. I should have said so.

In that case, I won't take issue with you. That sure is a beauty!

But since you bring it up, I intend to get that Rosie Folding Kalinga of mine into the fray this year. I expect it to be super.

Congrats Flat,

Looks sweet-Hope your hunts cause you to give it a good workout.

You are just trying to draw me out aren't you Flats... :D

Well PR the board as been light on content lately so I thought this a good oportunity to get something going about a Buck Classic. When that Ergo skinner is long canceled, Buck will be be pumping out Vanguards. And the reason is obvious...It's a super design. Throw in a S30V blade and its just plain awsome!!

I was just gonna razz ya about calling a droppie a skinner. :D

For some reason I never picked up one of the ergo skinners. Probably should have..

But I do have a supply of those rosie and rubber AG Vanguards.

I think I must have thought those were were going to be a limited run in S30V back when they first hit.

I do have a story about one of the rubber AG vanguards. But I need more coffee...:D

HeeHee I know its a all purpose knife more than a skinner but I do like it for work in the skinning shed.

So here's the salient question: if Buck made the 103 in an S30V version.....would you choose that instead?

Or is it just too damned plug ugly?

:)

I am one that will try any knife that I think might make a skinning job easier. S30V edge retention is a bonus in any knife.

Ugly.... I guess that is in the eye of the beer holder.

And no, I haven't ever tried a 103, simply because I only have one and it isn't a user.

I like it,wish they made a 103 in s30 v though..

That would be fantastic!!!!!!!!!! I love the 103!

I had one of those 192 Vanguards in S30V flat, I didnt care for it as a skinner. It works, but there is better. Beautiful and useful knife though! Nice pics!

I am with Flatlander as far as the S30V Vanguard being a great all around knife. My mom thinks so too.

I slipped one in her knife drawer a couple years ago and she asked about it a few weeks ago when we were there hunting. Mainly where it came from, but she knew that because it said Buck...:D

When I quizzed her about how she liked it, she said it was ok and that it seemed to stay sharper longer than the other ones I have left in that drawer. She liked it's size and most of all the rubber handle, yeah, it is one of the rubber buckie Vanguards in S30V.

I pulled it out and looked it over real good. The ti coating has held up well, but maybe some fading. The rubber has held up just fine, and of course the brass has the normal tarnish but wasn't as bad as some I have seen.

So what's the big deal you say... nutin,,, other than the fact that it is in a kitchen drawer and Mom loves to cook, so it has been well used, as have a few other similar Bucks I have put there.

But the most interesting thing I find, is just no telling how many times those have been run through the dishwasher with no obvious problems.

Why was it in that drawer you ask... It and the 471 in there with it, well, those just didn't work that well for me as a skinnin knife.

Well you do need to be careful when splitting the skin on the gut with a Vanguard!
