The best SAK

Hey guys I love the looks and feel of the original SAK ....which SAK do you recommend?

Firm believer in having locks.
Having said that,
And seeing that you intend only in having an sak
Mainly for use of it's main blade
Why not get the 111mm adventurer?
That's more blade than anything
Having finger safety in mind too :-)
It's incredibly light and unobtrusive, btw.

I love SAKs! I probably have 20 of them, mostly Victorinox but also a few Wengers. I love the alox models, like the Pioneer and Farmer, but most of the time I choose to carry a simple Spartan. It's only two layers and has all of the tools I need. I like the corkscrew because it holds the small screwdriver. I feel that the can opener works in a pinch for me with phillips head screws, so this is why I choose the Spartan over the Tinker. I sometimes carry a Recruit, Tourist, Sportsman, or Bantam just to change things up. I always have a Minichamp on my keyring. There is a pair of scissors on the Minichamp if I should need them, but I'm not all that into having scissors. For me, a knife can accomplish much of what scissors can do. If I needed scissors in a big way, I'd probably go with the Climber or Super Tinker.

Minimalist carry in size and weight, to me:

Minimalist carry in tool loadout, to me:

They combine to give you almost all of the versatility of this (excluding saw, which I don't have a use for in a urban environment)

With SAK combinations you have thousands of possible carry systems, adapted to all needs possible
Let's not say if you add other brands to the combo (LM, SOG, Gerber...), then possibilities are endless

My grab and run choice is likely the alox Farmer. But I have had a Rucksack since Christ walked the earth and I still have some fondness for it. Likely my oddest SAK is a honkin' big fire engine red Delemont. I would be easier with its size if the blade was slightly thicker.

Can you give a few alternative uses-thanks

You're asking for corkscrew uses. Yesterday I used that feature to hook into and pull out the cotton wad from a newly opened bottle of Aspirins, remove a plug of dried silicone out of an opened caulking tube, and fished dog hairs and gasket trimmings out of a pan of axle fluid.

To answer wensynch and anyone else interested ("Ohhh. That's sweet, especially that combo tool saw. Why must be you make it known when it isn't even in reach. That's like dangling cheese for mice. Or like doing the pull the dollar trick from the poor guy.")

Don't despair, they may not have been made or 25 years or so, but there are a good number of the Safari Troopers around to be had for a reasonable on-line bid/price - just make sure it's a Victorinox and not one of the lesser quality versions or knockoffs. And be especially sure to get one with the snap-on saw guard - your fingers will thank you.

thank you sir,I guess I have to be a little more creative.....the dried silicone remover is an excellent alternative, been there a few times

Or you can simply use it to remove a cork from a bottle of moscato someone brings by, while sitting by the pool 😆

It's an alternative to beer 😉

I agree, we should have a thread called SAKs and beverages, they seem to pair quite nicely every time

I have quite a few SAKs but the ones that see the most daily include a Soldier/Pioneer.

Fun thread to read.

Bottom line, picking a multitool for somebody is like picking shoes for them. Every foot and every EDC need is different and highly personal.

The best "SAK" for me is a Leatheman Micra, but that's just as helpful or unhelpful as me saying I fit into Merrells better I do in Keens.
