Recommendation? The best survival / daily chef's knife?

I reckon you want something like this custom knife in MagnaCut by Aaron Johnson:

Bowie Chef Knife

Bowie Chef Knife

with a sawback for bread

Bowie Chef Knife

I got one of those!!
Great in the kitchen, but I doubt I'd even baton a carrot with it.

The link you posted actually says it is 2.7mm thick, albeit using a comma in place of a decimal point, which perhaps might have led you to misread it as 7mm.
Yes, that's an error on my part. I am sure a thicker one can be made as his Bowie Chef Knives are sold out.

Come on, man. Please provide some actual value in this thread. How's OP going to be able to figure out which tool to open up on something like that in the event that a pack of wild boar gets the drop on the guy in the wilds of some back alley camp kitchen in suburbia? "GET HIS WALLET!" while Danny Boy's trying to whip out the knife, but pulls out the fish scaler instead. Boy, is he going to be in for a bad time.

🤣
The monocle. It’s ALWAYS the monocle.

Spyderco Forester (by Jerry Hossom) - Discontinued, so you'll have to track one down.

Has met all the requirements.

I have one of these and completely agree with your assessment. It's an elegant and imposing knife. Unfortunately, it's a safe queen. I just can't bear to use it :(

Hi everybody!
Been reading this forum for quite a while now and finally signed up. This has been quite an interesting thread so I thought why not make my first post here. Looks like the OP is not hanging around any more so any further discussion is just an academic exercise. So why not throw in my .02?

How about a Becker BK10? It's stabby, plenty stout and if the Khukuri can do kitchen duty the BK10 should work well enough to get the job done. Don't want carbon steel? Fine. Find a custom maker to build you one with the steel of your choice. Give it a full flat grind for extra slicyness in the kitchen. Is that a word? Slicyness? It is now!

Want something a little more "mission" capable? Becker BK18. Same same. Have a custom maker make one up in the steel of your choice. Along with any other mods you might want or need.

Truth be told, a stainless Mora Garberg would probably do anything needed. Well, except for maybe the charging wild boar thing.
