Recommendation? The best survival / daily chef's knife?

Hey, this may have been mentioned but the new Joker fixed blades *spanish made, all around 100 bucks, they use great (stainless) steel, have a bunch of different grinds and lengths, there was a round of models that came out a few years ago or more, and a new set of models that came out recently. Might be worth checking out, I haven’t touched one yet but I’ve heard good things.

My curiosity has the better of me. What does this elite Spec-Ops magician unit you're with issue for this purpose? I mean, surely you aren't the first Tier 1 CQB fireteam shooter who's had the need to be able to extricate yourself from an armored transport while also being ready to filet a fish, right? I'd imagine they provide tools for the job, no?
We haven't even considered trenching or bomb disposal yet.

I think OP's quest is purely hypothetical at this point. Discussion just to discuss. Let's not worry about the actual purpose of this ideal knife, because I suspect the uses are discussed more than actually encountered.

I just pick my favorite knife and go into the woods. I admire the hunt for the perfect knife, I think we all get it, but just get off the internet and go put some miles on some edges.

To your point, I’m sure that if OP here wishes to emulate members of his nation’s military, there’s probably plenty of active duty or former military members he could speak to in order to get a clear picture of what they used and how. Though I’m betting they will tell him, “We took what we were issued and made it work.”

Right? Me personally, I'm still trying to work out the idea behind needing a chest rig for a camping trip, but that's just me being a "keyboard-operator", I'm sure! :D

As stated, the biggest knives are still too big. Yet they can impress with their complete overall construction.
And many knives come in size alternatives.

I advise you to go to a thread were you offer value.
Yet you said "what more could you ask" and asked "whats the catch", then put it in your top 3 contenders even though a 6" blade seemed to be your limit.....I can only guess you didn't like the answer...
Wow. Just wow. What more could you ask for? Just saw it chop and baton in a video.
For 55 bucks, he said? Good when canoeing and in humid weathers? What's the catch?
Awesome tip! Probably top 3 right now.

A guy who's mentioned the word "mission" roughly 17 times calling other folks "keyboard-operators" is crazy ironic. This thread delivers!!!
Not to mention the "imaginative" hunting scenarios where he is fighting off wild boars with a 6" kitchen knife because of his rigorous professional hunter training.........🤣
This thread seems to be more about survivalist fantasy than anything else.....and some kid having us on about it...somebody who took a hunter safety course but doesn't really know much else about it. Maybe reading G W Sears book Woodcraft would enlighten him as to how to proceed as he prepares for his secret missions....

Simple....when he is in the bush and is attacked by wild boars he can deploy it instantly.....
But I prefer one tool that is fail-proof and ready at hand from my chest-kydex. Any second.

I think Busse INFI steel knives are close to what you want in general, they are supposed to be tough, see if you can find one that can slice well enough.

Come on, man. Please provide some actual value in this thread. How's OP going to be able to figure out which tool to open up on something like that in the event that a pack of wild boar gets the drop on the guy in the wilds of some back alley camp kitchen in suburbia? "GET HIS WALLET!" while Danny Boy's trying to whip out the knife, but pulls out the fish scaler instead. Boy, is he going to be in for a bad time.

🤣

Wild boars absolutely hate being scaled.

You guys do realize that military service is mandatory in Sweden? If OP is really from Sweden, there's a high probability OP actually has served in the Swedish Armed Forces.

I mean, OP doesn't need to be the most operator of operators operating operationally in an operating operation; however, having just one do-it-all knife that isn't an outright large chopper knife or smallish hunting knife in a field environment isn't a far-fetched or outlandish requirement. I can see why the axe/saw/small knife bushcraft oriented combo doesn't really work, now (though, I'd still argue having a folding saw is beneficial in any "kit").

I am aware of that, but the way the OP keeps talking about "the mission", is why I asked what unit he's with. I was unaware of any static going on between Sweden's Army and The Grand Barony of Wild Boarovia, the kingdom that borders them to the South. I'd not heard of any reports of incursion by that great Kingdom into native Swedish territory, that's why I was curious as what experience he's had that led to the need for a kitchen knife that's also a survival knife that he can mount to a chest rig. I'm guessing he's been ambushed at LEAST once, right? Probably trying to (ahem) hog all the glory for himself.

:D

Could we just make this a thing? we should always be referencing the mission.

Example: "wow, I just got in my new Alox Farmer, and I'm impressed. This will really help me with the mission."

Example: "Golly, this Survive! Knife will never get here in time for the mission."

Example: "My Kershaw Leak just chipped the tip off. This is not acceptable for the upcoming mission."

Spreads the weight a bit better? And you don't have to take your backpack off to get to the sunscreen.
