What makes a proper fighting Khukuri ?

All great blades from different cultures have one thing in commen, something that makes the good ones have a certain aura.

In a sea of blades there are certain features that make particular blades stand out with in there certain genre.

With Bowie knives I have come to discount any Bowie that does not exhibit Distel Taper and a sharpened clip.

With a katana, curvature and edge geometry can be the difference of a blade that performs at a high level or one that just flat out does not.

It goes on and on from Broad Swords to Tomahawks to Rapiers, certain crucial features can make a world of difference in how a blade feels and performs.

Don't get me wrong Heat Treat is a huge factor, in fact so huge that it is what truly allows these designs to achieve there high level of performance. But hell we are talking about a Master Smith here so we our counting on this to be spot on :)

So what makes a Khukuri a Fighting Khukuri ?

That is simple. Any Khukuri can deliver a deadly blow but what differentiates a Fighting Khukuri from a farm implement is the ability to change direction. The best handling Khukuris all have one thing in commen they have Fullers and either stick tangs or tapered tangs.

Don't get me wrong , I have some none fullers Khuks hat are great tools and would make fearsome weapons but we are talking about making a purpose driven tool here. A fighting Khukuri above all others.

This is going to be an an anemic WIP because some things Jason just does not want to show and because he has ten of these to build so he's gotta keep on keepin but here we go :)

I know I said my Moss drop point bowie was probably the closest I'd get to a khuk...
but then you posted the "new Khukuri of hell" !
I'm pumped. :D
Thanks, Joe and Jason !

Yep, this is one I am gonna be all over, every day, checkin' it out. Very cool already.

Looking forward to this. It's been a whole day Joe, patience is not one of my strong points. Jonesin' for some more Jason magic :-)

A dedicated fighting Kukri, is a very different beast to the general purpose Kukri that all know so well. A fighting Kukri is much lighter often under 650 grams to make it very quick and maneuverable and drops away far more radially to give a better wrap around it's target. Any kukri is a fearsome blade to face never the less.

Thanks everybody for there continued interest.

Here are some more pics . I hear it made it over to the USN

I hope Jason comes along soon and offers some commentary :)
