The BK9

I don't own a 9, but I have a couple of alternatives.

If you plan on using it primarily as a chopper, consider the BK4. The angle and balance make it feel like a really natural chopper. It's my favorite big knife right now.

I also have a Condor Kumunga, which I have found to be an excellent knife for the money. It can be found for less than half the cost of a BK9. It has a good factory sheath, a deep-biting convex bevel, and the 1075 steel is super tough. It will handle more stress than 1095cv, but will not hold its edge as long. It is really easy to sharpen, though. Some think it is ugly, but I like the utilitarian plainness.

Just giving you options to look into. The 9 seems like a fine knife, and I certainly would not try to steer you away from it.
