The blade show? who and what tables

Well, Mary sent me an ap for and end table in the ABS section. If I can figure out a way to pay for airfare, hotel, car rental, and a $436 table, I will be there with BELLS on! :)

I am seriously thinking about going to this show. I wont be bringing anything, but I have not been to a "real" knife show yet. I would get a kick out of seeing some of the fellow forumites and checking out your work. I need to see some of your knives in person.

I am not an ABS member and I don't know if I will ever be good enough to qualify. Is there more going on than just the "open to the public" stuff? Things like, workshops, demonstrations, the JS and MS test, etc that i would be able to watch even if I am not a member?

If i go, I think I will be flying in. I checked out the airfares and it would cost me the same in fuel for the old 92 F150 as it would to fly. Plus 2 hours in the air sounds better than 14 hours in the truck. And two days less off from work will pay for the hotel and food money.

Let me know about any other activites I might be able to see.

Thanks

I just talked to Mary.I am on the list for next June.So I guess I will get to see some of you next summer:)

I'll be there back in the sticks, but I'm trying to get moved a bit closer to the front ( yay ). I should be in the handmade section, especially if I have the same table. Already getting excited for it, and am starting on knives for it now. Look forward to seeing you all there -- Charles

me, Alan and mary Folts will be there for sure. No table. I will have a shirt that says something like shop sweeper on it. the 1st day

Otha,
You know where to find me :)
If you smoke, the loading dock is the place to be. If you don't smoke, the loading dock is still the place to be. Hmmmm, wonder if I can talk Mary into letting me set my table up there :D

I noticed there seems to be a bit of ambiguity in this thread reguarding the nature of the show.

Anything knives is at this show. Whether a grinder or a pounder, there is everything for you to see.

Last year was my first time there...and I can say whole-heartedly don't plan to see the show in a day. I was there from open to close all week-end and didn't see it as well as I would have liked to.

Of course there are shows like the Art Knife Invitational...which is ONLY super high caliber...but as a whole, I think the Blade Show is the Powerhouse of shows.

There is a hand-made section featuring mostly stock removal work, and the ABS section featuring forged work, and then the production scene is represented strongly as well.

I am definitely going to try and make it!!!
Nick

so. . . . are you saying I should bring plenty of cash? :( :)

The blade show is the best show I have ever been to! You cannot see the whole thing in one day so plan on staying for a few. It would be best to book hotel reservations and tickets now. I heard tha tthere is a hampton inn accross the street that is a little cheaper than the Renaissance Waverly Hotel but there isn't a pit there everynight after the show.

Kit

I dont smoke but Ill still be on the back dock. having mountain dew breaks.

See U there

Man, you guys are making me sick. I went to BLADE last year and REALLY wanted to go this year, but the June flights are just too expensive. Expensive that is, when you take into account that you cannot go to the BLADE Show and NOT spend loads of money :D

I think that you pretty much need to go for all three days, I did one and a half days and missed a lot of seminars I would have liked to see. Some makers sold out on the first day, so you miss so much as seeing their work if you are late. And a lot of stands had great deals going on the last day as dealers/makers tried to not have knives to cart home. I wish I hadn't spend the bulk of my mad money on the first day. Fortunately there was an ATM right in the Mall, it accepted even my UK cash cards, so you can always get refills if you run low on bills :D

A bunch of Blade Forumites managed to meet up for dinner on the Saturday night. Getting to meet people was a great part of the day. Danelle took some pictures here: http://www.interfold.com/danelle62/bladeshow.htm

Donna and me will be visiting the dock allot I figure as I usually am like a smoke stack myself..

Never having been to a "real" knife show I hope to go, may be able to cobble together a couple of knives for show and tell. Last year I promised this trip as my 50th birthday gift, but now my wife is trying to insist she accompany me - and there's no way we can afford two of everything... So if she insists on coming, neither of us will make it. Let's hope she sees the light.

Dave, tell her squaw stay home, warrior going, be home when ready! And have meal ready, woman! Not work for you? I envy the folks that can make the show, have a good time for me, too, folks!

I've finally gotten around to opening that pile of mail that came while I was gone....I have a table, just don't know what number yet.....as soon as I find out, I'll post it. May not have too many knives, but it sure will be good to see everyone again!

Hey Ed, welcome back!!! Glad you're safe and sound.

John, you'd hear my dear wife's voice all the way in Burlington if I tried that!... No, much better to just sneak out in the night...

:D

I'll be there at Sava's table in the A.B.S. section. (Might as well since I live 20 min. away, so if I can lend anyone a hand let me know gusk@bellsouth.net.) Good luck to you guys testing. I hope to be celebrating at the A.B.S. dinner with you on Saturday.

It will be great seeing old friends and I will try to make a point to meet all of you that I have not met.
