The Bloody Blade: Cuts

Over the years I have had some pretty bad cuts. I never once thought about taking a picture of the wound!

Be careful guys! Respect the blade.

Been posted here a few times already, but what the heck. Double flexor tendon cut. Minor nerve damage. Now I have a pinky that does straight or close all the way. Packing skids at work in a cast for 2 months wasn't all that fun either. I got over 30 stitches on that finger which is about what I have in the rest of my body.

Since tendon retracts after it's cut, they have to open your hand up in a nice S shape cut to get to them (took about a week before my surgery). Note the little clip they glue to your nail so they can tie a piece of fishing line on your hand to hold the tendon in place while you heal.

Be safe with your toys boys!

I have only have a few minor knicks and cuts. In an unrelated matter, i used to take a robotics class in middle school and we had a teacher that was working on this large machine, I have no idea what it was. She turned it off and unplugged it and then left to go to the restroom. While she gone a student had plugged it back in and turned it on to use it for something(I never got far enough in the class to work with it, but it was just smaller than a washing machine). She gets back and takes the top off of it to fix something inside and all I heard was the machine starting, followed by the sound of like a shirt getting caught in a washer and the machine stops. She screamed and came out of the room with what looked like hamburger meat. she was out for the rest of the year, and when she came back her hand still looked like a chewed sausage.

What do you use to stop the bleeding??

I use SUPER GLUE for cuts, works like a charm.
not deep cuts of coz.

i was putting some oil on the blade of my gayle bradley (first evening i had it), well it slipped out of my hand, i have hardwood floors in my house so the first thing i thought was "OH NO!! dont let it hit the floor, the tip might break" so the genius that i am, i throw my foot out there like a soccer goalie to "save" the knife, giving no thought to my foot that is only protected by a slipper. well the blade caught me right on my ankle bone, and cut down to the bone, bled like a son of a gun, luckily it didnt hit something that had some more meat on it before the bone stopped the blade. lesson learned, just let the knife hit the floor....or atleast have on the right shoes for such activities.

¡¡And they don't believe in coincidences!! This happened to me, almost exactly, only that, I was sharpening a Gibben throwing knife, the floor was concrete (it was the laundry room) and I got cut in the big toe of the right
foot. Out of shame I did the stitching myself, in the Emergency room of my hospital.

... the cool thing about nerves is that they almost always find each other in time or make a detour and the feeling comes back. It just takes time. :)

How long before they stop being supersensative? I opened up my left hand almost 5 months ago and it still hurts like *** whenever I bump it. No pictures I'm afraid, but the cut ran over the top of my index finger knuckle and down the side of the finger half way to the joint.

I broke my right ring finger in high school. I ripped the skin and muscles out in the middle joint from a 45lbs plate in the gym. It took about 4 years, but now it's fully functional. It also took a few years before my appendix surgery cut feels normal.

This is the worst cut I got while I was working in a knife shop in washington...

I'm lucky I got out with only that.

Note to yourselves, "Ghetto Waving" your Spyderco's with zip ties is dangerous =)

I wrap it and let the plateletts kick in.

I probably should have used my quick clot though for the machete wound.

But I only have one and I didn't want to waste it

Earlier this week i split my left thumb open lengthwise while whittling towards me with my #10 Opinel.

And this evening, i drove my Mora 2000 into my knee while whittling away from me.

All these crazy knife related flesh wounds... My only crazy flesh wound was caused by a nail... I wanna share :(

Go on ahead. I don't mind. A nail is just a blade with only a point. sort of like a sai or a rapier.

I'll take it :D So round about the tender young age of 12 or 13, I was messin around at the bus stop, jumping up and grabbing an overhang, hanging for a minute and letting go... Typical foolish youngin activities... The last time I ever leaped without looking, I grabbed ahold of the ledge, and felt a pinch. Let go a little bit and it felt like I was wearing a latex glove that someone had pinched and was pulling, so I pulled myself up and pulled my hand away from the ledge and let go... Got my feet on the ground and looked at my hand to try and find the splinter... Turns out, there wasn't one!! Long story short, I had "partially de-gloved" my left index finger... It was BAD, meat of my finger all hangin off the tip of it and bone STARK white (the WHITEST white I have EVER seen)... It didn't start bleeding for a solid minute as my body was in shock, but when it did, it looked like a crime scene... Rushed to the hospital, emergency plastic surgery to fix the sheeth and the tendon, put all the skin and sinew back together... 140 disolving stitches and another 40 to hold the skin back together...

This was taken a week later when they took the bandage off for the first time, I almost hurled... (Pardon the quality, the digital cameras of 2001 were not so good, read sub-megapixel...)

I cut my palm on the LINER at the butt end of my Kershaw Rake trying to clip it to a thick pair of jeans.

That was one tight clip!
