The Bloody Blade: Cuts

Hey, guys!

I like scars. They each have a story, which is usually painful, amusing, and embarrassing all at once.

Here's a fun one of mine:

And a few days later:

DSC00075.jpg

That was from a mishandled Glock field knife at something like 3 in the morning.
You see, I have this bad habit of when I can't sleep I play with my knives! :)

No pics for two reasons:

First I had no real cam until a couple years ago.

Second I'm usually too busy trying to figger out just how the hell I'm gonna deal with said injury to start snapping pics! :D

But here's some I've done....

Got a knife at around ten and,you guessed it,done got stupid with it and nicked myself-scale of horror 2

Later on I was cleaning up some broken glass,if you've been cut by the stuff I guess you know what I mean when I say you just don't feel it,all you know is all the friggin' sudden you're squirting all over!! scale of horror 3

Then the time I was playing with a new Ka-Bar,I flip knives and such all the time, well this time I lost it and got the tip in my knee....un,dammit now I'm bleeding all over. scale of horror 1

The big one was when I had an ax sitting in the corner of my room,do not ask me why,and I lost my balance and slammed my right foot down to catch myself...heel first right on the ax~Oh-my-fu***ing-gawd!!!  that one was a REAL screw up as the blood wasn't red-it was almost black! but I didn't go to the ER just packed it up with tape and poured iodine on it (and yes, that was muy painful) and was on my feet a week later.

Really don't know how or why I didn't go or need to go to the ER on that one but I didn't,also odd but I didn't go into shock at all just hobbled around and cursed like Satan's brother.
I'd say it went in about two inches, missed the bone, but may have FUBAR'ed some veins as the color of the blood was all wrong.

Scale of horror 1,000+

That arrow thru the hand is too much:eek:

I'm pretty careful but $h#t happens. Mine was opening a roll of plastic laminate that was standing upright ,tied top and bottom with twine. My work knife at the time was a Gerber L.S.T....super-sharp. I was in shorts. I cut the top string bracing the roll ( that was under pressure). When I cut the bottom string my knife twisted sideways and snapped out...right into the back of my calf.
I told my supervisor I was going to the hospital. I left work and hobbled home 3 blocks away. By the time I got home my sneaker was full of blood. Only about 6 stitches but I put the tip about 3/4" into my calf.Ouch :foot:

Ok, so. One night in 2003 me and one of my Marine friends were sitting in my then girlfriends (now wife) room. She is a medic so she had this little med kit on the table with a knife in it. As I was checking out the knife my friend (who's a little stupid) jumped on me and pretended he was going to stab me in the face with it still in my hand. I had my left hand on his chest trying to push him off of me as hard as I could still holding the knife when he suddenly jumped off. Due to the sudden loss of strain I inadvertantly slashed my own hand open. Blood sprayed everywhere! I pretty much instantly went into shock and dropped the knife. My friend squeezed my wrist really hard and slowed the bleeding to a steady ooze. I then punched him in the face twice as hard as I could as I was a little pissed. My girlfriend wrapped my hand in a towel and being an ambulance driver got us to the hospital in just a few minutes. We got to the hospital at 2200 and I then saw several different doctors over the next couple hours and each one told me worse news. It started as "you may have nicked the artery, we'll stitch it up and send you home" but in the end it was "you severed the radial artery, radial nerve, vein, four tendons and destroyed the bursa sack, surgury is scheduled for the morning..." The blade went between two of the bones in my thumb and opened the joint right up. The nurse called the MPs and they wanted to arrest my friend but I told them it was a pineapple cutting accident. I ended up in a cast for a month then had to go to physical therapy for two months. To this day the back of my hand is numb from cutting the nerve.

I hope you enjoyed my story, don't play with knives when your around Marines.

Oh yeah, the little scar is from where they had to cut in to pull the tendons back down.

Andrew

I lol'd, then felt bad.

ouch, i cringe looking at some of those pics. I had many knife cuts through the years, but a few that really made me think twice.

1. machete cut - working doing land survey, had to clear some PITA bouganveilia(sp) bushes. I hit a think branch and the it vibrated the blade in my hand, I let go of the blade and it slid down the back of my hand starting from my right index finger tip. It went through thr fingernail down the fist knuckle and turned by the second knuckle, butterflyed my index finger down to the bone. the girl that was working with me screamed and wanted to call 911, I told her bring me paper towels and ductape. 2 weeks later good as new (sort of)

2. not a knife, but sharp none the less DRYWALL SAW - I was cutting the glove box in my 4runner (4x4 addict) relocating the ECU. the blade got stuck so irelocated my left hand to better remove the blade. Well I removed it right in to my left thumb, split the thumbnail down to the bone up to the first knuckle. My GF (now wife) was not happy and handed me the ductape (she knows me well) nast nasty scar but functions well.

3. after the arrow story I read in a previous post I just figure I add this one - 3 prong diving spear (Hawaii what can I say) we used to make our own equipment and had a pool accident, it went right through my right hand. one prong between index and middle finger knuckles, one through the palm, and one though the web by the thumb. Luckily it missed all major blood vessels but it messed up my tendon. my middle finger dont go all the way straight no more.

Yikes. Some shiver-inducing pics in this thread.

No pics, but two Darwin Award incidents by fellow LEOs. I was present for the first, but not the second.

A co-worker was showing off his boot knife, a cheapie you may remember called a Smokey Mountain Toothpick, a fixed-blade double edge dagger. He was carrying IWB. The little sucker was sharp and, as he attempted to re-sheath it, the blade went through the sheath and into his side. He gave us one of those "Oops" looks and we all knew what had happened. Fortunately the cut, although fairly long, was vertical and did not penetrate much flesh.

The second, which I did not witness but is confirmed, occurred in the 70s, when body armor was just coming into vogue. The person involved was showing his girlfriend how the vest could save his life and proceeded to stab himself in the chest. The vest did not stop the knife and he spent some time in surgery and about a week in the hospital. It penetrated the pericardium but not his heart. This extremely lucky guy returned to work a few weeks later and managed to safely retire about ten years ago.

Now don't ask me about the firearms instructor who blew a 45 round through his hand right in front of a room full of SWAT guys.

THANK YOU!!! I'm no tthe only one who has a macete scar!!!!

Man, I'm starting to wonder if shouldn't have linked this thread. Then again, it's full of new stories :D

This one refers to my dad when we were hunting deer for my second time , I was about 13 years old.

After the shot on a large doe my dad pulls out his very old and very sharp Case folder . I'm not sure of the model but it has stag scales. He opens it up and while holding it in his right hand grabs the deer by the left front hoof to re-position it and gets kicked in the right wrist. The left thumb was butterflied from the first joint to the tip and into the nail. all of the bone was showing and blood flew out like a water fountain. He just looked at me with a scowl and cut the bottom of his flannel off to make a wrap. He wraps his thumb handing me the knife and says to the deer " you're gettin' it now". Then he picks up a giant rock the size of a small town and squashes the melon of the deer. It was all so surreal. We then take the deer back and head for the hospital where he gets a shot under the nail that levitates him from the gurney and loads of stitches.

OUCHH! Wow that was pretty far out! It's a lot easier to touch a downed animal's eyeball with your gun barrel or stick, broadhead before touching 'em by hand. Those critters can really pack a wallop!

I always seem to cut my left index finger over the knuckle. I have done it like three times. In fact, I have stitches on it right now that I just got yesterday. I should wear some chainmail gloves.

The victem finger and the attacker lol...it snapped closed on my finger, its a seriously thin profile sharp blade but the backspring for a knife 2 - 3 times older than me is crazy strong.
