The Boss Jack has landed! Now sharper than ever.

I have never posted my good pics up online;)

I have two 1TB hardrives full of them. I could email you a few sometime:)

You got me thinking...I don't even have any of them on the DVD's I burn to when I transfer to my laptop to upload to photobucket for the forums:o This forum plus Mach1registry is the only reason I ever post pics online:D

I can't wait to see yours:thumbup::thumbup:

You've got my email, feel free to send me some stuff. I'm curious what these cameras are capable of! I'd appreciate it.

Give me some time and I can give you some samples from a few different cameras. I will even give you some ISO samples to let you get a feel for the difference in the different sensors abilities. I am drinking with my girl, just bought a new truck two days ago and I need to open this package that has been waiting for me from Mr. Pohan Leu in a minute:)

Nice! You will be able to get wonderful results.

I would look into a 50 1.8 nikkor. Really sharp, great for portraits on a DX sensor and it will get you great closeups. All for a very affordable price and very light and compact.

I have one and it is the sharpest lens I own. It is a very old "Made in Japan" version. I would think the new ones would still be as nice:thumbup:

Here is a link to a few http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=NIKON 50 1.8&N=0

Here is what I have been using on my D3s http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/585343-USA/Nikon_2180_AF_S_Nikkor_50mm_f_1_4G.html

It works for knife pics in a pinch:)

I think you will be happy with the 18-55 though:D

I have a Nikkor 1.8D 50mm and they are nice.

The 18-55mm VR is a very good lens and will take some very nice photos. :)

It's really a very sharp lens.

Are macro style shots like the one of the butterfly etc you took possible without a dedicated macro lens?

I took that with my Nikkor 70-300mm VR from over 6 feet away. :D

You can take some very nice close ups with the Big Zooms, but they don't focus under 5 ft.

You can get very close with that 18-55mm VR.

Mike,

I took these two with a Nikkor 1.8D 50mm and the D90.

They are behind glass.

230 - here is a quick pic of my new Leu. By quick pic I mean quick pic. No studio lights or fancy camera controls or post editing software. Simple find a dive flag and toss a knife on it by a window....here are the unedited results aside from light sharpening during resizing for photobucket. If you took your time and worried about shadows created by the knife and the light source itself and general setup you could get MUCH BETTER results. These are just to show you an example of the 50 1.4G's performance with a hungover guy at the controls:D You can notice all the shadows and blown out highlights that really make these pics amateur level at best:p

Nice picture, BTW, that knife is VERY NICE.

I had a chance to play with someones d300 today, although I think i'll be more than happy with my d5000, I'm going to need to upgrade that 18-55 to a 18-200mm, that's a fun lens!

What's funny is, the person with the d300 tried to sell it to me, they like their other d80 better because there are options for auto shooting and it makes a better every day camera.

Thanks Mike. Like I said, you will get great results if you put some time into it. I think you will like full manual for knife pics though. Pesky highlights get tricky in auto-semiauto modes with satin knives.

I don't think I will ever get a good knife shot because I just don't care all that much to set up right :)

You can set the D300 up the same way as the D5000 (Or D90) as in I always use P mode (Programmed Auto). Once setup you can just shoot and not worry about too much.

I never use AUTO unless I hand the camera to someone then I switch it to Auto.

The 18-200mm VR is a pretty good lens really, but I chose to get the 18-70mm and 70-300mm VR as it gives me more versatility.

You could just get the 55-200mm ($224) and you would have 18mm through 200mm covered instead of getting the 18-200mm VR ($741.00).

Ank, I like the way you think! Saving me money, just what I need!

What are friends for? :D

Down the road once and if you really get into DSLR then that would be the time to start getting better lenses once you figure out what you really need.

You will understand what I mean once you have the Camera for awhile. :)

Once you get out of the Kit lenses 18-55mm and 55-200mm they get expensive fast as even the mid range lenses I use 18-70mm and 70-300mm are $365 and $600 or the 18-200mm $741 and these are Mid Range not Pro Glass.

Pro Glass is over $1000 and goes way up from there into the Thousands.
