double action otfs are a different setup. require a long push firm push to release the sear either way and the spring energy is a one time push so the blade wont fly out in a pocket much....and make them safe for pocket carry. otf single action require a safety. without are far too dangerous to carry in a pocket. not sure anyone makes a single action otf without a safety anymore except maybe a Chinese junk knife maker.Well my sample size is very small, but ironically, the only auto i've ever had deploy in my pocket, was a Benchmade. I had the safety off because it was quite frankly an annoyance, seemed silly to defeat the purpose of a one-hand opening knife to have to drag out of my pocket and use both hands to pry off the very stiff safety before I could use it. It popped open one day and I had enough of it, sold it the next day.
We now have two side openers and two OTF's, none with a safety, and have had several years now of no issues at all. go figure.![]()
same with lever locks as another example. completely safe for pocket carry due to the lever action required to open it.
I'm speaking of plunger / push button locks only needing a safety and they do. recessed plunger locks/push button locks without a safety are not safe for pocket carry. this is one of these things like a seat belt or motorcycle helmet..... ya dont need it til ya do.......then you'll be glad ya have it.......
if ya think about it logically....the guy who created it..the recessed plunger / button....stopped making his knives that way on his own. this was long before lawyers working for free and class action stuff. he did it because he knew it wasn't safe. he added the safety cause it is needed. that shouldn't be ignored......
