For those expressing regret for not getting the "upgraded" g10 handles, In my experience, in use, on a big chopper, I prefer Micarga. G10 is prettier for bright colors, but I'd much rather chop with the linnen or canvas micarta.
Maybe if it was uncoated it would set me over the edge, but methinks I am about done buying coated Infi .. I've said that before I know but I'm really sick of those coatings and don't wanna bother stripping them anymore.
I am with you there brother. I get the :grumpy: face from the wife when she sees them all laid out. Hey I got to keep them well oiled and such.Stop coming out with cool new blades! I'm trying to save money... I had a lady friend over the other night, told her I'm trying to stop buying blades and that I've only (paid) for one this month, the BG ASH. She said, "it really is an addiction, huh?" I need an intervention![]()
Very nice looking design, nice to see something different for a change! I dig the Rambo throwback style. See that it's .220 thick, they must be using up the last of the basic 8 stock. I think that is a great thickness choice though, and should keep it from being unduly heavy while still tough. Only thing that could have made it better was if it had a penetrator tip ala the early Battle Rats. I really wish they would produce another blade with that tip!
Question about a couple of things though for those who will actually use the blade, how much do you figure the saw blades will impede batoning? Also, what is that ripple design down the blade and what is the purpose of that style? How does that effect chopping performance? Will all those ridges cause more friction / impede chopping?
I'm deciding between tanker grey and black or brown micarta. Anyone have any pictures of blades in those configurations to help me decide?
Also, how much less wear resistant is the tanker grey coating compared to say the black? I prefer the looks of the grey, but since I plan to use it I may default to the black if it really wears that much worse.
