THE BUSSE CHAT THREAD!

I like a small sharpening choil, ive never had a large finger choil serve me on a small knife.
I'm down for the 1/8 311 though.
I agree with finger choils sucking on small knives. Ratmandu is the smallest I’d want one on. Smaller than that and they take up too much blade real estate and don’t help with anything.

Can I ask why you like sharpening choils? I’ve heard a lot of answers, but none override the fact that they get hung up cutting stuff just north of the handle.

If a knife has no choil at all I can still sharpen every single bit of it, tip to ricasso. With a sharpening choil I can do the same thing, but when I poke it all the way into something it sometimes snarls up and always has that drag and skip before it starts cutting.

With an EDC fixed blade I’m looking to poke it into something then slice my way across and out. Without having to worry about any choil getting hung up.

I see what your saying and it makes sense, I dont hunt so maybe that's why I haven't noticed any hang ups.
I generally just cut wood in the general bushcraft way.
I like those little choils because I've had a tough time getting that first bit of blade in front of the Ricasso as sharp. I guess it seems like I dont have enough room to work on that first little bit of edge.
I've even added my own little sharpening choil to knives that didnt have them.

Good explanation.👍

Got any more pics? I love seeing your photos. Your Busses and kin work for a livin’.

I just wish they’d make a choilless 311 in 1/8” thickness. That would be the perfect edc. Poke it in stuff as deep as you want and not have to worry about that goofy elf choil getting hung up - sign me up.
Agree.... would love a choilless 311

She's a keeper!
My daughter took my Ganzaa antique bronze Rucki, keeps it under her bed. She also has a GSO-6 that I couldn't stomach to keep to use, and she like the scales that I had picked for it. So it's hers. She doesn't know, nor need to, about all the drama and BS surrounding the Survive perps. She loves that knife.... and the RUcki. I was devastated when they disappeared from the Swamprat website. I had intended to get another one... purely for myself.

I have never had this problem with a choil hanging up in a deer. PROVIDED I have altered it like I said earlier, so that it slants out to the edge. Works nice and smooth. My favorite field-dressing knife is set up like that. Works like a dream. Geez, I want to go hunting just so I can use a knife properly again.

THIS! ^^^^^^ This is exactly what a knife without a choil is a non-starter for me. It doesn't have to be big. It can barely be noticeable. But the knives that I've bought without a choil exhibit the exact problem that I have with them, straight from the manufacturer. And I, too, have added choils where they weren't made that way from the manufacturer.

Not trying to convince anyone. And I can easily add them to knives that don't come with them. So, if it is a knife I REALLY want, choil-less isn't truly a non-starter. I'll just dremel-ize it. ;)

My wife likes the TGULB and DB-421. She is petrified of the Mega Ratweiler lol.

She’s already claimed my TG-M. Now, she just needs to decide on some pants for it.

For those of you that have any version of a Team Gemini, and have put it to some use, how comfortable is it when choking up and using the choil? Does the guard get on the way?

I don't mind it, gives a positive boundary so you know your hand will not end up on the blade and reduces the possibility of the knife trying to rotate while using it. Choil is a nice size too, very useable. (Model: Forsaken Gemini)

I don't think so. You def notice it is there, but it doesn't bother me. It might even give a little extra leverage for certain tasks like using the tip to hollow or put a hole in something. I did a sort of lightweight review of the Original TG here about 2 weeks after Blade '10, where I scored these, if interested in reading. I covered this a little better on that thread. 🙂

It doesn't bother me. I tend to put my thumb kinda of around it, opposite to that pictured immediately above. With that grip, the knife is locked pretty solidly in my hand for any kind of cutting. It works great for me. Might be one of the reasons it has become my favorite blade.

Can somebody post a comparison pic of a fusion handle and a nano fusion handle? I'm curious to see the size difference. Or, if that has been done before, post the link. Thanks. I guess I'm most curious about the Fusion Steel Heart and the Forsaken Steel Heart with NF handle.

Anyone else notice that there are only three blades left on the Busse website or have I been living in a fog?
