The Busse NMSFNO

I'm getting Freddy Ramos from ramoscustoms to build my leather sheath, I have one in the works for my Thor NL1. Looks like great sheaths, in a couple of weeks when I get it I'll post up some pictures.

What kind of leather sheath would you guys recommend for the NMSFNO? I'm thinking along the lines of a utility (i.e. nothing fancy) style dangler sheath.

There are many to chose from. Leather is always nice, but if its going to be out in the real world in inclement weather, IMHO, the nod goes to synthetics. Formed kydex is nice if you want a specific, close fitting sheath with little raddle and you don't mind waiting a bit. They (custom markers, leather or kydex) can also custom tailor things like pouches and additional small blade/accessory pouches on as well.

My preference is to generally keep it simple for field conditions, and I find that the SpecOps sheath suits my current needs, is available and affordable. Tho the much missed Lost Mountain Iron Works is *fingers crossed* coming back, and I'll probably pick up some of his sheaths as well if possible.

I * believe* you can get sheaths that offer the standard belt carry with dangler options. I have never tried a dangler, but I'm not much of a fan of the idea. It is probably good for a smaller fixed blade (under 5 inches), but for something like the NMSFNO, not my cup of tea. Nice when you sit down an all, but I'm not a big fan of things swinging and banging around while I'm moving.

To OP, good call on going with your current order if you are actually planning on going out and doing things in the outdoors.

Is that double cut finish or tanker grey?

Neither actually. I believe its sage, kind of a beige color...its just the lighting. I do have a couple others, including a Satin finish.

The NMSFNO might be the apex of Busse design. I own plenty of knives and can advise that it just doesn't get much better than this one for a 'hard use' blade. You wouldn't believe the abuse I've put mine through. Congrats on the choice to grab one.

As for leather sheaths I don't know of anyone who has made more Busse sheaths than Leatherman. He is here on the forums and his work is unsurpassed in my opinion. Give him a shout and see what he can do for you.

I would like to get a leather sheath just because I like the classic look and i think it would pair well with the NMSFNO. Most of my other sheaths are kydex. Thanks for the heads up on the specops sheath. I'll pick one up for sure as I can use it for other knives as well. The price is nice too. I saw some nice sheaths from Savage Made Sheaths that aren't too expensive. I think I'll go with him for now. I'm not looking for anything fancy so I don't feel like spending $100+ on a sheath for now.

@jstokes1 What price did they quote you on Gladius, if I might ask, and with what options? I'd love to know how much the custom shop would charge for a satin finish Gladius with black textured G10 handles.

Can't wait to get this puppy. Got a comp finish g10 handled team gemini on the way. Should be here thursday

The anticipation grows, will my NMSFNO arrive before spring, defined as 60 degrees and I am playing golf. :D

I'd love to pick one up, but it's hard for me to justify given my current collection. I have a SARGE 7 LE (satin finish, paper micarta handle) and a SARGE 7 with a Bowie clip point (satin finish, black canvas micarta handles). I love the SARGE 7 for its light weight, and IMO that extra inch on the NMSFNO isn't going to buy me much. Sure, the NMSFNO is a better chopper due to the thickness, but in terms of INFI awesome per ounce it's hard to beat the SARGE 7.

I have to say I love the NMSFNO as a nice well balanced knife for a wide range of tasks. I will say that while I typically like the FBMs my search for some smaller alternatives has led me first to the NMSFNO, SARGE 7 and now the SAR 6. The TGLB is also an awesome knife... I guess what I'm trying to say is, any busse or kin blade you get will live up to, or exceed, your expectations in quality and dependability. That's my .02 but you knew that already :D!

Here's some more drool material for ya! :)
