The buy before you try giveaway

I'm in, thank you for the chance.

I used to had a rough rider swing guard lockback, I thought it looked pretty neat and I wanted to try a swing guard. Well it was not made well compared to others I've had, and was too cramped in my hand.

I tried my hardest to like a Boker canoe - its sitting in a drawer.

thanks for the chance

Im in. My biggest let down was a 61 congress. I truly wanted to like it but it had way to many blades for me LOL. I had to sell it.

Not an entry.
I guess the closest thing I have is the 92 eureka jack. It had everything I was after, and when I finally got my hands on one the lazy snap of the coping blade just ruined it for me. I eventually gave it to a friend.

I see what you mean about wanting to like that sway back jack. Wish I could say I have bought enough knives to have a little buyers remorse... but still in the collecting and not selling stage. Muahahahhahaaa

Very generous of you, teddy, and an interesting theme!:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: I'd like to enter, if I may.
I keep buying small (3-4") "lockback hunters" with clip blades because I think they look cool, but then I never enjoy carrying them, so I give or trade them away. Here are some examples:
This amber jigged bone Rough Rider was actually in a set of 12 assorted RR patterns. I eventually traded it for a RR Half Hawk.

Not long after trading away that one, I bought a RR barkbone lockback that I gave away within a month IIRC.

One last example (although I think there may have been at least one other "catch and release") is this RR midnight swirl synthetic covers version. Gave it away after a bit.

Maybe my motto is "Live and don't learn".

Just quoting this entry from Henry Beige because it amused me as much as anything I've read this week!! :D:D
My biggest letdown came from what was represented to be a NOS Camillus TL-29. I don’t think I have ever seen such a poorly-assembled knife, with such uneven, badly sunken springs. It looks like it might have been assembled by a squad of monkeys randomly selected from a million of them on a beer break from their random typing.

I have a flea-market Imperial that is much better, as well as ones from Marbles and Rough Rider. I keep the Camillus only to have something to carp about when I need to be outraged about something other than politics or the presumptuousness of autocorrect’s presumptions.

Please count me in. I love a knife with a straight-edged blade, and try always to have one on me.

Yes, I'm in... like the look of your S&M.

My Regret Knife, this Northwoods curved Barlow.

The smooth bone is beautiful and the size doesn't bother me. But the pull is insane, and patina on a knife of this caliber and size looks sloppy. It cries out for a good SS.

Thanks @teddy1093, I'll go in on this contest. I've been wanting to try a swayback, just haven't found 'the one' yet.

My biggest disappointment was this Rough Rider canoe. I really thought I would love it, but after carrying it just a couple times it wasn't speaking to me, and it's been in a box since. Maybe some day I'll try again, or it will end up in a GAW here. Nothing wrong with it, and the blades are crazy sharp (gave me a couple stitches when I used the Dumas cleaning method on it).

Count me in. I got all excited about the B&T thread and bought a Queen model 85. The handle was way too small (2 1/2 fingers) even though the blade was nice. Thanx for the chance. I don't have a Wharncliffe.--KV

Now that S&M is one I'd carry. It would (probably) bump my Case Swayback out of the rotation.

This large Case Stockman is a really nice knife. But too big, and the square bolsters left it on the counter. Now the property of a young man (12) who wants to make knives.

In the beginning For me it was the GEC VIPER Not that it's not a great knife it is. However I wasn't used to having a knife on me and if felt like it was to big so for me the GEC #92 TALON Was a much better fit at the time. Now I carry many different types of blades. I no longer own ether knife but I did find these pictures to help in comparing the two knives.

Id like a shot at that pattern.

Tough one on knives I've not wa red up to. I had a case stockman that I gave to my father in law. I've given quite a few away to my brother, my dad, etc.

I ordered two Queen Collaborations and a S&M grandad barlow at the same time as a few other GEC patterns. Instead of adding two more GEC, I thought I would mix it up.

All three bad some issues. The Burke/Queen grandad Barlow had a monster pull. I love nail breakers, and this one is that, just a scary bear trap. But it had gaps, and a THICK grind behind the edge, and a bit of gaps in the liners. I've thinned it some, but it for dropped and needs a re haft. The S&M grandad barlow had gaps big enough to see through. I had to give the bolsters a vice and hammer treatment. Still a bit of gaps. But gets varied more than others. This one has a bit of a curve to it too. Probably from the amount of gaps, and trying to cinch them up.

The Queen/Perdue gets the most pocket time out of the three. It has three different spring strengths, which is off putting, and not something I can fix. Soft, easy, and firm. It also had blade wiggle (which I fixed) and much too thick in the blade grinds. The D2 steel made a full reprofile of the grinds a pain!!@ but I got it done, and carry it a lot.

I'm a sucker for a SBJ so I'm in. From one Teddy to another, thanks for the generous GAW regardless of the F&F issues. :) My pattern was the Canoe, I had 3 of them, 2 Boker 200s and a Case Jigged Red Bone Indian Canoe from the 80s. I tried for many years, carried and used them over and over, just couldn't warm up to it so I gave all three away. The 2 Bokers I held GAWs for and the Case I gave to a friend here on BFC.

Good luck everyone and again, Thanks Teddy for a terrific giveaway. And good luck to everyone else.

Here's the Case:

I'll post the Bokers if I find a pic.

If this doesn’t fit the spirit of the GAW I totally understand. My regret is riding in my pocket right now. I had a little extra cash saved up, and thought I wanted a nice, modern folder. A Spyderco popped up in the knife exchange and I pounced on it. I’ve carried it every day for a few weeks now, just trying to find a way to like it, and I can’t. It’s rock solid, great centering, flicks open easily, and has a great edge. I just can’t make myself enjoy carrying it, though. If I had it to do over I would have went with one of the traditions I was looking at.

Yup, I went the Spyderco route too for my first nice folder purchase several years ago. It sits in the tackle box. Bright side is, you didn't go to the Dark Side.

I regretted buying a Queen large stockman in D2. It had a gap, which wasn't a huge deal as it was a user. What really got me was how thick behind the edge the clip blade was. It took me half of forever to reprofile it and it never did cut the way I thought it should. Every time I pulled it out of my pocket, I got a bit annoyed by a knife that wasn't half bad except for a blade I seldom used. Silly, I know, but then buying more knives than you need sure isn't logical ...

I'm in, I'd like to see another S&M.
When I bought this Case Trapper, I was sure this was a knife for me. But I really don't like the jigged delrin and find she is too large and heavy. So now she's one of the few knives sitting in a drawer day in day out...
