The camp tramp is back !!!

The Camp Tramp is a legendary knife for a reason. If the 711 is diff-tempered . . . and I suspect that it is . . . it will be an instant classic.

I don't think it will be for that price point.

With all due respect, the Camp Tramp is one of a kind, often replicated but NEVER duplicated.

The CT is what brought me to the Swamp. :D

Me too, Dwayne. Believe me, I hold the Camp Tramp in VERY high regard. In fact, it's the first hard-use knife I ever purchased and still the last knife I'd be willing to get rid of. And I've purchased quite a few knives since I've been here.

To address Thrill's concern, I notice a couple of people have asked Dan whether the 711 is through-hardened or diff-hardened. No response yet. But if it's through-hardened, then Dwayne has it right. It ain't no Camp Tramp.

Now THIS is a release that looks sweet!:thumbup: I've heard so much praise for the Camp Tramp and this knife has basically identical specs. SWEET!! :D

If you can't get a CT $120 for that- it is pretty sweet!

I am luckily set... :)

I have 2 tramps so will probably sit this one out. but if you dont have one I would be all over this!!!!!!

I notice some folks are saying they'll pass on the 711 because they have a Son of Dogfather (SOD). It has about the same dimensions as the 711 but it's constructed of SR77. SR77 won't take and hold an edge like SR101 will, but according to Jerry it has the same lateral strength INFI has and it sharpens easiily. So I understand where they're coming from.

I have a Camp Tramp and a Scrapper 6. That pretty much fills my needs in the 6.5" to 7.5" category. But I agree with you, cut it out. If you don't have a CT, SOD or S6, I'd be all over the 711 . . . hardening method notwithstanding.

I have a SOD, but am still in for this one, mostly because of the steel. SR101 is awesome!

Res C and SR101........that's the stuff dreams are made of. Who cares about the hardening technique......it's not like anyone would/could push it to the point where it would make a difference or they would notice!!!!!!

If Jerry differentially tempers some of his blades, he must have a reason. Whatever the reason is, I assume he knows what he's doing.

Of course he knows what he is doing!!! It was never implied he didn't. What I am saying is, either way it will be a great blade, and if someone doesn't get it because it is ....or isn't differentially hardened, their loss.

The Battle Rat was offered in both DH and TH, I have not ever read a review stating that one performs better over the other.

True. Still, I'm sure you'd agree that 52100 doesn't possess the same degree of lateral strength S7 or INFI possesses. And lateral strength is a feature of Busse Kin Knives that appears to be near and dear to Jerry's heart. I assume that's why he normally invests the time and the resources to differentially temper his larger 52100 (SR101) blades.

I have a tan Camp Tramp. And yes, I am getting the 711. Should be a good size, very handy and strong enough to satisfy most normal souls. There are those who would sell all of their knives save their CT. I happen to be one of them. I'd even let the Basic 9 go if I had to! The 711 is enough like the CT to make me quite interested.
