The cleaver discussion thread.....

I'll be getting an F. Dick Swiss-style cleaver at some point in the near future. It's like what you'd get if a chef's knife and a regular cleaver had a baby. :D

This one:

Here's a vintage Russell Green River Works cleaver.
Overall length 13".

The blade thickness is just about 1/4" at the thickest part.
The tang is tapered.

Here's mine, an old Foster Brothers #8.

This thing is a beast: 16" OAL, 8" blade is 3/8" thick at the handle and tapers to 1/4" thick at the end.

I will probably redo the handle at some point, once I get some other projects out of the way.

darn it, somehow I passed this thread over a few times now. I have an old beatty and sons and an old C hammond, both pretty big overall. Ill have to get some pics up now!

Nice looking pieces so far!

I just found this Cleaverish thing at an antique store and was curious if any cleaver fans could help me figure out what it is, if its rare, and if it is a good blade.

This blade was priced at 45 dollars but I got it for 30 dollars.

Here is a close up of the markings, it says Mason & Parker then below that it says Cutlery Steel.

Well it's not a cleaver. That handle would be in the way and not sturdy enough. I'm guessing it's some sort of industrial stirring device.
