The coin thread--post pictures of your traditional knives with a coin

That type of the florin's design was known in Victorian times as the "gothic florin". The first florin design in George V's reign was taken from the design from the reign of Queen Victoria. Perhaps WinchesteRalox meant this. Just my thoughts.

The Gothic Florin was due to the lettering and having the date in Roman numerals, not Arabic. The first Florin in Britain was the so-called 'Godless Florin' as it excluded the 'magical' words dei gratia by the Grace of God on the image of Victoria. It was also an early attempt to decimalise the archaic British currency by have a 2Shilling coin as a tenth of a pound, this was 1849, Britain did not decimalise until 1971! Maybe the same with Brexit....

Apologies for the numismatic based detour..very beautiful coins the Godless and Gothic!

You're right of course, I sometimes jump in a bit too quickly. Marvelous, what all one's brains come up with when you try to remember something you read or heard quite a while ago ...:D Btw, are only Austrian Gulden known as Florins? I know some other southern German states used Gulden as well, but I never saw them being reffered to as Florins.

Anyway, to avoid going full off topic, here's a pic of my #66 and the quarter I got from @jc57 a couple of years back. It's sort of become my lucky coin, always riding along in my wallet. :)
