The Cold Steel Voyager in AUS10 steel is THE BEST knife you can buy for the money...

However, they are difficult to find right now and appear to be out of stock just about everywhere. I fear this, along with the sale of the company, could mean an increase in price, but I hope that's not the case.
I believe some have already reported price increases from when the GSM CS site went live to the present. There’s some discussion of it in the CS sub.

If the resources of GSM allow them to produce CS knives at reduced expense, they’re going take the improved profit margin, not lower the price. If they can’t improve margin with lower production cost, they’ll raise the price per unit. GSM has to recover the acquisition cost.

Well, instead of cold steel, I think I'll go with kershaw's d2 in the new strata ;) only $25 more and almost available

Its possible to destroy an Abrams M1 tank - if you drive it into a hardened bunker at 45 mph.

When I see someone using a knife like a 10 lb hammer, or trying to break it in half, I know the video is really about the person seeking attention and not about the knife.

Imagine trusting your hands to a Chinese Kershaw frame lock and thinking ""D2"" (wink wink) steel is a tangible upgrade to AUS-10A.
you assume I'm going to try stupid things like in that destruction video... I don't & won't

but you do you

If I need something to abuse, it's going to be a heavy duty fixed blade

I was cutting a vacuum line in my engine, touched something hot and pulled out fast. Banged the blade shut and still lack a little feeling here and there. I wouldn’t consider that hard use.

Which knife banged shut on your hand? That certainly adds insult to injury after a burn. In my experience, most locking mechanisms are fine for normal use. The actual strength can depend more on the particular knife than the type of lock. Anything that would come close to testing the strength of a lock is usually something that shouldn't be done with a folding knife at all. Of course, accidents happen. While I don't like the hassle of additional locks or safety doodads, I do like a flipper tab that acts like a guard.

I don't expect Kershaw's chosen Chinese manufacturer to use a fake steel stamp but it is Chinese D2. It seems to be sensitive to mass heat treatment. I don't know if this is an issue with D2 from other sources but we've also seen a lot of variation in vanadium content in XRF tests on Chinese D2. Between the variable performance and lack of corrosion resistance, I've mostly given up on Chinese D2. There are a few companies who really seem to get it right but at the end of the day, there are lots of other choices where we don't have to wonder.

My main question is where AUS-10 falls on the list of other choices. I tried a couple of Kubey knives in AUS-10. The factory edges performed abysmally. I know that factory edges are not a good indicator of overall steel performance but other issues stopped me from caring long enough to sharpen down to fresh steel.

Kershaw is pretty hard to beat,I bought my USA made Link with anodized aluminum scales and an M390 blade for $70..I got my Link in 20CV with milled aluminum scales on sale for $60.thats quite a bargain for a USA made knife in premium blade steel..Mora knives are probably the best value ever,I used a $8 511 for years and often chose it over knives that costed 10-15 times as much money...with that being said,Cold Steel has some great deals as well and they make some of the toughest folders you can find..I mean, they have multiple knives that are built like a brick shithouse and use the Andrew Demko Tri-Ad lock..I haven’t tried the Voyager but I love the 4-Max,AD-10,AD-15,American Lawman and the Recon 1 to name a few..I worry about the future of Cold Steel now that Lynn Thompson sold the company though

Absolutely agree. That knife has great strength.
I do wonder if the AUS 10 blade is stronger.

Just see this video.
How many folders can do this?
The thing is, for me, that I can’t imagine needing a folding knife to withstand such abuse. I’ve never had lock failure from Benchmade or Spyderco, or from a Rat-1 for that matter. Granted, Demko’s Triad lock is absolutely the strongest, most robust lock on any production folders that I know of. However, I’m far more interested in how the knife cuts, how well it retains an edge, how it feels in the hand, and so on. The Voyager may be great on all those points, for all I know, but I am relatively unmoved by destruction tests!

Here is one
So, you think your PM2 in Maxamet steel is going to hold up to this knife abuse? LOL!! While a PM2 in Maxamet steel is an excellent cutting instrument that holds an edge, Maxamet is also brittle steel, and your knife would be in little pieces after this youtuber's torture test.

A folding knife torture test on youtube is nothing but knife abuse and provides zero insight into the knife's capabilities or limitations.

I had to see what the fuss was all about.

I do like the geometry of the blade. A nice fine tip. I don’t like the way the butt extends down so far. The liners are not skeletonized. The texture is nice, but it definitely shreds the pocket. The edge is good on the presentation side but the clip side is wonky. Rick solid lock up.

I am happy with it for 50 bucks.

That's a very nice knife. I have two myself. :)

I have no idea. Probably lots. I've seen the same done to a Benchmade Bugout.

But I don't see the need to do this with a folder. Same as I don't see me ever piling barbell plates onto the handle of my folder.

I use far more criteria in selecting a knife than how many times somebody can drive it through a log. I own hatchets and saws.

But if folks consider this to be what makes it "the best", well I'm happy for them.

That log was rotten, BTW.:p

Wait until you discover Morakniv and Opinel!

Those babies are hard to beat for the value/performance factor.

Carbon Companion and an Alox #8 for about 40 bucks is awesome!
Hear, hear! I'm carrying a Mora Robust Pro right now! (And I never liked AUS-8.)
