The crap non-knife people say

I've recently gotten interested in a flipper BUT no thanks to so-called tactical models. For that very reason.

The argument is as stupid as the public perception of black guns but exists all the same.
Yeah I hate that. I've got some flippers that are all black, or "Tactical" but that isn't why I bought them. I usually have my Victorinox Cadet or something on me so if I'm afraid my big black "tactical" knife will get me some looks I can just use that.

I get told daily about how I would get arrested if the cops ever stopped me. I carry a BM 581 in Jersey.

Sheep: You know the cops will take you to jail if they find that.
Me: Really, why?
Sheep: Look right here, it's longer than the width of my hand.
Me: If the cops ever stop and search me, chances are the knife is the least of my problems. The width of someone's palm varies, and that is not how the law works. I use the knife for work, not to cut people.
Sheep: *silence*

I was looking at some sharpening stones at a store one day and was informed that they were a waste of money by one of the other customers. According to him, only the edge of a blade is heat treated and the blade will not take a sharp edge ever again. I'm so glad that I've been enlightened. Just think of all the time I may have wasted on used up knives!

Thanks for relaying that sage advice. Good to know! :)

"you spent how much?"...I tell him a quality knife will last nearly forever or only a minute when used incorrectly and are worth the cost...several days later the person bragging about his ten dollar knife that is just as good as my 585 is no longer using it. I ask why and he says...sheepishly...when he opened it a few days ago the blade flipped up past the stops and wouldn't close...he asked if I could fix it...I replied "no" can't fix junk...buy a good knife.

I hear stupid s**t all the time, mostly I ignore it or just smile and say something smartass.

About a week ago, me and a buddy were in a coffee shop not far from where I live, I won't mention the name but it rimes with car trucks.

I always get the same thing when I go in a car trucks, 4 shots of espresso in a short cup, I usually just stand there where you order and pay instead of moving over to the other side because its and easy order. I always end up paying with a debit so by the time they swipe the card and I get the receipt and pay cash for the tip. I never tip on my card, mostly because the store or restaurant gets some of it instead of all of it going to the waiter or whoever.

So anyway, I'm standing there in the front of the line and the girl(cute little blond, I'm sure she made a lot of tips) hands me my cup and I put the lid on and grab one of the coffee stirrer/lid stoppers so I don't spill it in the truck.

Problem is these things weren't made for the short cups, so I slide my hand under my coat and slide my spyderco resilience out of my back pocket, the people behind me can't even see it, so I didn't even think about it.

I know, the resilience is a bit on the large side, but I like it.

I thumb it open and slice off the bottom 2 inches of the stopper and close it up and slide it back under my coat and into my back pocket without anyone behind me ever even knowing. It was cold so I was wearing my carhart ranch coat, (nice coat but almost to warm).

I felt pretty good about myself, not letting anyone see it, except the girl behind the counter. As soon as I get the knife back in my pocket I look up and see this little blond girl behind the counter with her mouth hanging open, as soon as our eyes met she says" That is huge", loud enough for everyone in line to hear.

I stood there for a second, and turned around and everyone in line was looking at me, (they didn't see the knife)
I reached down and acted like I was pulling up my zipper, and said" Ya, I get that a lot", and walked out.

My buddy standing behind me dam near fell out laughing and had a hard time ordering his coffee. I had planned on staying inside to drink my coffee but didn't think I could do it without laughing or having to explain a knife the size of a resilience without telling somebody to **** off.

Pivotal moments, ten years from now when I go into a car trucks this will be what I'm thinking about.

Really funny story, you had me laughing

You guys would laugh if you say my dad opening his boxes and letters with his Parker pen. He stabs the thick packing tape and violently pulls along the seam until the box is open. It's so typical of him. I always beg him to at least borrow one of my blades, but he always turns it down. I love the stories featuring Gerber and S&W. They crack me up every time.

Some of these stories just make my blood boil.

How can some non knife people be be such idiots with so much lack of common sense?
