The Delica Effect

I have one of The Original Spaceman's clips on mine. I like the OEM clip all right, but deep carry is the way to go in my circles.

The first time I saw a Delica, I said "Ew, I would never carry such an ugly knife, and what's up with that enormous hole in the blade?" I did not initially understand the ingenious design of the blade, but I did appreciate the lightweight FRN, so I gave it a try. For years I carried my little blue Delica everywhere, and quickly discovered that being able to open a knife one-handed was a necessity for me. Recently I was looking at a new folder just released by Fallkniven, but I couldn't bring myself to buy it, because I don't ever want to break another nail opening a knife. The Spydie-hole is genius, plain and simple. Function over form.

Today my HAP40 Delica is my precious. It goes everywhere with me. I just bought a ZDP-189 Delica, not because I like ZDP steel, but because it was a Delica. I bought a pink delica off this forum. I hate pink, but it was a Delica, so I had to have it. I want one in every color, for reasons I cannot explain... This thread is like therapy for me to work through me Delica issues... So, in answer to you question, yes, it happened to me too... like a sneaker wave!

For me, the hole of the Delica has always been a great/not so great trait. It makes for easy opening, but it makes the thing so damn tall, it's not a comfortable carry for me in my front right pocket. Because of that, I carry something else.

Since I feel like this thread needs some more pics here's one of my brand spankin new delica...
Nice! Purple is next on my list, and I agree it would look great with a polished clip. Here are my Delicas, plus my Salt 1, which I consider an honorary Delica...

For me, it's the Caly. I tried to not love it, but I just have to have it. It's such a good knife. I think it's probably the same for you with the Delica. Feels like it would part waters for you ;)

Didn't really care for Spyderco ... until I held a Delica.

The Stretch, Caly, and Natives all steal pocket time from the Delica but I keep coming back.

The Delica ZDP ... yeah, it's *that* good! ;)

Omg reading this thread brings me out of denial that the Delica is my favorite.tried to explore other spydies which I'll probably continue but my Delica ' just steal all the pocket time.im really digging the blacked out combo edge.it is just so useful and at this price point I don't mind using it as intended.still on the hunt for the hap40 version which I'm finding impossible to find.what a great freaking knife!

I've always had some version of the Delica, now I'm using a waved one. We need to get a flat ground version of this in all black.

Hi RedCoillie,

Where'd the odd handle come from?

sal

Boomer52 is correct - they are Putman scales (got the knife from the "electronic bay"...). The hexagonal pattern looks really cool, but the FRN scales actually provide better grip.

Great collection Red Collie!

Thanks, I realized right after I took the pictures that I forgot to include my recently acquired bright orange Delica. Guess I will just have to take more pictures after I add a few more to my collection! I also forgot to mention that they are all users except the green (ZDP) and pink.

I too keep trying new knives. Every time I look at that 600 page EDC thread I see something new and say "Neato" an spend my lunch money only to have it within a week back in the safe and the D4 back in my pocket.

Positive note I Xmass those knives out to friends and family. So everyone thinks I'm awesome dude.

P.S. it helps that every Spyderco comes sharp enough to cut the fabric of Space Time itself!

I prefer the one of the 3" versions of the Calypso when i carry something that size...but no question that the delica is an excellent little workhorse also.

A superblue little caly is part of my rotation.
