The Dirty Word

dirty? Other than Fletcher there ;) it's all good :D :D :D

actually, Ethan has and carries quite a few brands.

he's the johnny appleseed of the SAK and folder world, having planted more folders in the woods than anyone :)

(it's why he likes belt knives, harder to lose ;>)

Kind of crept into this one. Was not sure how receptive it would be to talk about other brands in the Becker area. I see all is good...well except for that darned Dylan. :) I would like to hear what Ethan carries around other than SAK's. I know he like the hunters friend and Beckers. We need the scoop.

Spyderco, Böker and Benchmade. Got a single ZT too. Plus Leathermans and Victorinox.

Other than Becker, ive got Fallkniven, ESEE, Ontario and CRK to cover my fixed-blade needs.

I was carrying a Ger... yes, I've learned not to say that word here :) I'm carrying a Kershaw Skyline now, and I really like it. It stays sharp much longer, is smooth to open and doesn't have any blade play like the Ger... did, but it does ride a little high in the pocket for my tastes.

After Beckers, my favorites are the Alox SAKs. I usually carry one as a backup to my Eskabar.

I recently went through a trend of downsizing my SAKs, from Farmer, to Pioneer, and now to the Solo.

benchmade folders, a Rift and a Griptillian for daily carry. Blind Horse is real good and I have a few of those. I'm also liking this Bark River Aurora a whole bunch.

I have a leatherman skeletool that fondles my left buttox on a daily basis.

I have an Ontario Kukri like object, a Rat 3, a Gerber profile, my lovely BK 5, and a few Condors, a Boomslang that's been altered a little, a Toloza and a Golok.
The Golok is a monster.
I need to get familiar with Convex sharpening though for my Condors, and so I can do it to my Beckers also.
I want 2 of the three tweeners that are coming, I think I want the Machaxe, and the Brute, and maybe the patrol machete.
I might be happy for a few months if I get all those ..lol

I'd like to know more. What different brands does he like and/or carry?

Other than BK&T's I really don't have much to speak of. I have a Cold Steel Hunter plus from when they were still made in America. Fiddleback makes a knife that I want to get, but I can't afford. I like my Condors Nessmuk and Sapien. Until later that's all I know.

OH GAWD!!! There isn't enough time in the day to talk about all the knives Ethan has. I will say this, he probably has well over 500 knives. They span from the Shop, to the house, to the office, to other places.

E has a soft spot for Charlie Mays. He has so many of those. He has a very impressive Rob Simonich collection, and his FBF collection is coming along nicely. He has one he picked up at Blade from Andy, another one that was a gift, and one that I gave him on his birthday, a Woodsman. He has knives from just about every maker to come out in the last 40yrs.

Two knives that I KNOW FOR A FACT Ethan doesn't leave his house with out, is a SAK Rucksack, and a BK11 Necker

Now, my knives span a few years, with the most precious being my FBF collection. I have the prototype Hunter, 12' Machete, Bushcrafter, Woodsman, and I will be adding a Hiking Buddy to the list before Christmas. Probably a Bushfinger before my birthday in Feburary.

FBF is the only knives I collect. Some get used, others just get cleaned, sharpened, and admired.

I have Beckers, Kabars, ESEE's, Mora's, BHK, Green River, Cold Steel, Spyderco's, Kershaws, SAK (Vic), Ontario, Khukuri House, Case, Canal Street, and some that I have made myself. I like knives.

The thing is, if you are a knife lover, then there is no such thing as brand loyalty, there are just to many makes, and models, designs that one would love and admire. We are knife lovers here, so please feel free to ask or post up about it, but please keep BKT in there some where, so I don't have to move your post out of here.

Good stuff.

I spend most of my younger years (single life) buying crappy knives. Mostly because I didn't know any better, and figured the expensive knives would break too. lol So i didn't get enough quality knives when I was younger and could more easily afford them (cause I was military too :D)

Now being a family man I can't get as many nice knives as I'd like to. Slowly though I'm building my collection.

You are right, if one is a knife lover one would love all knives, not just one brand.

That's really cool to hear. I'm fortunate to work with with one of Charlie's good friends so I get to hear about his shop and workings a good bit. I'm really looking forward to his folder.

And back to topic. I've carried Benchmade and Spyderco folders and have nothing but good things to say about them. My Khukuri House blade I have beaten the snot out of and trust it completely, it's a beast. Much like my BK2. The only other fixed blade I have is an ESEE HEST. I'm super impressed with their reputation and designs. But like Moose said, there are just so many brands and types of knives to support only one brand. That said, I really really like my BK2.

I carry a Kershaw scallion in OD green and black, love that lil thing. Also carry a CS Recon tanto from time to time when I want a samurai sword in my pocket.

ESEE, Condor, Mora, Victorinox, Buck... those are what most of my productions consist of. I have a few others, but only 1-2 of them. I prefer customs, though. I like how I can keep in contact and change things up if I want. Specifically, Christof (Koyote) and Culberson.
