The Dirty Word

Beckers-2, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, & 5
Ontarios-SP 8, 10, 17, 47, Kukri, & newly modified (again) 12" machete (now has a 2 finger choil, 3.5" of jimping, chopped bowie tip & firesteel spot & is totally razor sharp) & 18" machete
Kabar-WartHog
Condor Boomslang
My cheap, but very sharp (now anyway), W-Mart Winchester hunting/gutting knife, while hunting.

So just got a package from BudK. Got a cold steel shovel, kukri machete and a cheap knife (wahoo killer) for the tackle box. Interestingly, the 1.79 wahoo is in better shape than the machete. Tip is just mauled up and this is the dullest knife I have ever seen. What is the best method for sharpening a machete? I have a belt sander and some stones but this thing is beyond dull. Any tips would be much appreciated. Not really bitching for 15 bucks because if I can get an edge on it, I am going to beat the hell out of it. :)

Convex that baby on the belt sander, I took mine to a bench grinder. Works too if you're not blessed with the luxury of Harbor Freight and $30 belt sanders.

I got my ESEE-4 yesterday, what a nice blade. Still EDC my Esky though, and that won't change for some time.

Thanks Maethor I might give it a go. Have no idea what grit belt is on it but it doesn't look like I could mess it up much more than it already is.

What about the heathens like me that don't even own a Becker?

I have
2 Tram machetes 12 &14" bush
1 Imacasa machete colima 24"
1 BHK machete
1 heavily modified CS Trail Hawk
1 Spyderco military
2 SAK's 1 farmer and 1 soldier
1 Leatherman wave
1 ESEE Izula 2

My go to blades are the trail hawk and Izula. Going to give the 14" tram a go next trip though. The BHK machete was commandeered by my girlfriend.

Go with 80 or 120 to start with, and work your way up to 400 or so, then finish off on a strop to finish the edge.

btw, my ESEE-4 is officially grandma approved.

got a bravo necker in a trade, wicked little slicer that will be edcing from now on

How do you like the ESEE 4?
This winter I was either going to get that knife or the BK12. I'm torn between my loves of flat grinds and spear points.

This pretty little thing travels with me more often than my Beckers.

ESEE-4 or BK-12? Wow. I'm not sure if you can really compare these two.

I really like the 4 so far. I have tested it a little, done some whittling, made a few traps, batonned a bit, and used it quite a bit in the kitchen. One thing I have to say is that the custom handles from tkc are probably a wise choice. The 3 and 4 have the same handle shape, and for the 3 it is perfect, but a bit too small for the 4, especially for my size 10 1/2 paws. The thickness of the handle is okay, but I'm missing some kind of downsweep on the pommel. That's really the only thing I don't like about it, love the 3/16th thick spine and flat grind, coating looks good, markings are lasered perfectly and the grind (at least on mine) is extremely even and pretty smooth, very even and fine scratch pattern.

I'll be making a video review in the next week or so, after I got some real use on it.

I have only a small variety of knives.
The two on the right are my EDC, with the BK11 for scale.
The Boker Hyper is flat, secure, discrete, stainless, and replaceable. I wear it most everywhere, IWB.
The middle is me-made, with some of that slightly less flamboyant curly maple (recycled gym floor, actually!) in O1. I now wear it whenever I don't have to be in the office (see my avatar).
