The Disappearance of Trouble Blades (Tim Bakonyi and Jessica Bakonyi)

the irony of it being called the "debt collector" isnt lost on me.

Zing...;)

Unfortunately; to those that have money riding on this, it isn't funny in the slightest. I've seen a bit of chatter on Instagram regarding TB's downfall but nothing concrete to actually communicate what's going happening on their end to rebuild if at all...

Glad I didn't go through with ordering one last fall. :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

I was one of the first to place a order with Tim almost 3 years ago for two 3" versions of the dept collector back when they where around $500. I didn't put any deposit down so I can understand not wanting to make mine when others where willing to pay over a grand after he blew up. Haven't heard anything from Tim in over a year. Hopefully it's not nocturnal knives all over again.

Looseyfur and Leghog: Most people that I tell the story to point that out as well. I'm super pissed that Tim Bakonyi and Jessica Bakonyi appear to be common thieves who stole $475 from me and God knows how much more from God knows how many more people. That being said, I didn't lose my sense of humor and I find it ironic. People keep saying sarcastically "how'd you not see this one coming". LOL. You live, you learn. I just hope they don't plan on reemerging some day and thinking this won't haunt them. I will make it my mission to make sure everyone in the knife community knows what kind of lowlifes they've been. Thousands of excuses they could have given, but just ignoring paid customers legitimate concerns shows their intent. The only reason they popped up for air in their last posts was to pull in more cash on their way out the door. Theft is theft!

Well there is value in threads like this. Reminds people trust no one with your money. And all the excuses in the world won't get you your money back or product. I don't care if the guy is ill, adopts a family of refugees or whatever other crap. If you are an invalid or are preoccupied you can't run a business so don't take people's money. It's as simple as that.

I have been contacted by Tim and have advised him to come and post on here. I am bumping this to make it easier for him to find and post.

IF you pay by credit card or by PayPal using a credit card as the source of funds and IF you act to contest the payment within the limits set by your credit card company due to goods not received, you will get your money back. As certain as anything in life.

Problem is people want the knife so badly that they are willing to risk it. Most of the time they are burned.

What did he say? Definitely feel for those who were burned. There is no excuse, period. You do not take someones money and run because you have gone through a hard time. Tim needs to post up on here and either refund everyone they have now stolen from or come back and make knives again. Just a post or two on their Instagram every once in a while acknowledging this at least to keep everyone in the loop that they will get their money back or get the knife they ordered would have done far better for their image than this.

Tim and I spoke on the phone for quite a while. He told me a lot of extremely personal stuff in his life and apologized over and over. He acknowledged that there is no excuse for what happened. He says he is back in his shop and that knives are going to be going out the door very soon. Those who know me know that I am not a sucker and I am not prone to being B.S.ed. That being said, the story he told me would be one of the only plausible explanations I could imagine. I do wish he would just come on here and explain what is going on to everyone in the community as if it is true it is not something I want to be spreading. As Mike and I have discussed, at this point I am giving Tim the chance to make good on his promises. This is in no way a threat, but if he doesn't come through I will revisit my previous decision on sharing the personal details that were provided. HUUUUUUUUGE thanks to my amazing friend Mikey, not a chance I would have even heard a peep if not for him. I guess we'll see if I am finally on the other side of this incredible situation.

Wow, that is interesting. I'm glad to hear he will be making this right, I hope he makes good on that.

Exactly.

Why they couldn't communicate what's going on sooner is kind of ridiculous IMHO.

Still nothing??

The Trouble Blades Instagram account seems to have gone MIA but Jessica's (TroubleBladesGirl) account is still live, however, nothing new posted in 46 weeks FWIW.

Jay Montroy Brooks was the production manager for TB. According to records he passed away on Dec. 23rd/2014. I take it he was doing all the heavy lifting at TB and Tim & Jessica handled the "marketing, PR & admin". :thumbdn:

My heart just sank to my ankles. I have been patiently waiting my titanium DC for a long long time. Looks like I'm out a rack with no debt collector to show for it. So, has anyone heard from these people? I gave them $1000 and I can't get a call, an email, or a fuck off for that matter.

I am desperately trying to find information on this. I am also out $1000 on this scam. I have been patiently waiting. No calls, no emails nothing. Do you have any insight on this debacle?

One of the knives that really got me into custom knives was the Debt Collector from Trouble Blades.

I watched all of Tim Bakonyi's YouTube videos, every related knife review video I could find, and looked everywhere on the secondary market for one. After a year of being unsuccessful obtaining one I felt like I hit the lottery when I was finally able to order one directly from Trouble Blades.

There are two Instagram profiles for the company, @troubleblades which is Tim's page, and @troublebladesgirl which is his wife Jessica's page.

Part of my obsession with the Debt Collector had me pretty much stalking their pages hoping to finally get one. While at work one evening in February of 2015 (in a secure operations center with no access to personal emails or my cell phone) the IG account @troublebladesgirl posted that the first five people to email them had the right to purchase one of the first five all titanium Debt Collectors which were currently being finished and would be available within a couple of months.

I ran out to my car and sent them an email as fast as possible. After a while without a response I inquired as to whether I was quick enough. I told her that due to my job I would not be able to monitor that email account, and I wanted to make sure there wasn't going to be a request for payment that I would miss and thus lose out on getting one of my grails.

She responded that I was the sixth person and that she would let me know if any of the five did not pay quick enough. She then added that she was so swamped with inquiries that she took the post down so that people would stop asking about getting a knife.

I thanked her and figured that that was it for this chance. A few minutes later she responded that they discussed it and would make one for me and just make six instead of five. I was beyond ecstatic and profusely thanked her and Tim. She then asked for the details I wanted and advised me that I would need to send a 50% deposit of $475 to their PayPal right away to secure my spot.

Contradictions like I have bolded are a big warning sign of scamming, not just in the knife field.
Also, the 5 knives story doesn't make sense.

Not just genuine. Not just authentic.

"Tim Bakonyi grew up in a small town in Alberta, Canada, where the rugged terrain of the Rocky Mountains served as his childhood playground. His passion for the outdoors sparked a love of knives from a young age. As Tim grew, his interest in blades grew with him, and his tastes became more refined with experience – leading him to purchase more expensive knives to combat a growing dissatisfaction with quality, materials, and features. This growing disdain and dissatisfaction for mass produced knives led Tim to explore and study blade design and modification techniques, which he applied to his growing collection. It is this passion and drive that led Tim to fully apply himself, learning the ins and outs of blade-smithing, networking with industry contacts, and building Trouble Bladeworks from the ground up."

This sounds like such marketing garbage. I would have passed on doing any business with this company just based on this hype nonsense alone.

It sure does sound like hype. If he built it from the ground up, why did it all fall apart when his silent partner died?
