The Elitist's War on Bushcraft: Part II !!! SERRATIONS!!!

You guys don't even read his posts, just throw out knee-jerk reactions that prove his point about the narrow-mindedness present in many bushcraft discussions.
He didn't claim that a serrated edge was better than a plain edge for bushcraft, and has only shown that you can use one, while pointing out that in some circumstances serrations can be advantageous.
I read his post and watched both of his videos he claims that bushcrafter/outdoorsmen say you can't bushcraft with this or that style knife I have been on the knife/gun/bushcraft forums for years I have never seen anyone except mall ninja trolls make those claims his so called myths don't exist. Most people on this forum of any age can do anything he does on the videos with a rock. His post and videos lead me to believe he is a nutnfancy wannabe .

A rather narrow minded opinion of an open discussion, don't you think? :)

Exactly. Why would my knife be dull?

Because this is the internet. If someone says your knife is dull than that's what it is. They will claim you don't use your gear as well or exclaim your preferences even if you might think otherwise. It is the internet and "they" know everything. Then again how much stock should someone place in a single sentence or word. This is another problem with the interwebs.

.... narrow-mindedness present in many bushcraft discussions...

Oy, no argument there, Owen!

Ever notice how many "BC/OD's" will chimpscream about the validity of something they SAW on a television show?

How often do "BC/OD's" discredit a book, guide or field manual on the subject?

How many "BC/OD's" have you ever heard start a conversation/discussion with "Based on MY experience..."?

Narrow-mindedness indeed, Owen!

Woods Walker-

There's a term for that "effect" -

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes.

Dunning-Kruger Effect
Is there a corollary that deals with the phenomenon of mistaking number of internet posts with experience in the field?

Anything is possible on the internet if you only believe and click your mouse three times.

THAT is hilarious.
Go to the W&SS forum page 1. Take a look at the views and replies, and see what gets the most play. TV personalities. Soap operas for men.
Webster defines an outdoorsman as one who spends much time in the outdoors or in outdoor activities
Such a narrow-minded definition...:p

The vids are awesome! After the bear grylls and bayonet you could do one with a sword? Bushcrafting with a katana naaaa... lol jk but not really I think it would be a good vid.

i thinkbushcrafting with a push knife lol. ot sure why people are getting bent out of shape. Obviously the op is just showing us that despite what somw of us think, blades of all sorts are or cab be effictive for bushcraft. If someone can use an axe for bushcraft why not a tanto? or a Tanto serrated knife? How a out one of spydercos fully serrated knives. Some of the older gents here probably used Old Hickory kitchen knives out in the bush. Speaking of which try using a kitchen knife in the bush, or deywall knife omg the possabilities op i think im in love. I know im all over the place but this is such a nice post. Whats the best ever knife for bushcraft???? What ever one you can use effectivly everyone is diffrrent.

You might be on to something, guys!!

"For our next adventure, tune in next week while we test a new knife! Outback Steakhouse's venerable Bushman Bread Knife! You've seen it in the restaurant...you've used it on your bread! Now, let's get some real Bushcrafters opinions of this knife in the woodline behind the restaurant!!"

:D

I probably don't get to have an opinion...I often use a lighter to ignite fires.

I think most of you get it. This whole series was meant to be funny, if the panther roar when the knife is thrown into the tree doesn't tip you off, I mean come on. At the same time, simply show that most of the everyday tasks of "bushcraft/survival" could be easily accomplished with just about any knife. I never claimed to be any kind of "expert," and in the vids I even state that these tasks are very simple. And while the Cybercrafters may not always directly say you can use ONLY this or that, how many threads have you seen extolling the latest "bushcraft" blade, you know, the one with a 3.5-5 inch blade, scandi grind, etc? You would think that's all experienced woodsmen used. Before the Interwebs came along, I didn't know anybody who used that kind of knife. And they all prospered in the woods. Again, use whatever you like. I certainly do. Coincidentally, I try and spend a good bit of time in the woods, and I don't own a single "typical Bushcraft knife." Not that I wouldn't, I've just never purchased one.
