The Elitist's War on Bushcraft: Part II !!! SERRATIONS!!!

Self important sloppy drunks run away when they dont get the attention and acclaim that they feel they deserve.

Holy Crap Batman! This surely proves ones point.

I'm getting out of this one 'cause I think all that needs said has been said. I look forward to the next funky knife for bushcraft video.

Gentlemen,

We really don't need the talk about activity on other forums (named or unnamed). All it leads to is drama. Let's stick to the thread topic and not focus on each other. :)

Thanks

Jason

You're right. I apologize to you and to the forum for saying anything about any other un-named forums. It was needless and created drama that didn't need to be there. Again, I apologize. It won't happen again.

Funny how when you can't see someone's facial expressions and hear their tone of voice and body language, how miscommunications can happen.

Yup. Heck I can hardly write a coherent sentence let alone express the vast amount of information that is past via non verbal communication.

There's something I will add about serrations: I don't think it made it into the video, but I made a couple of traps with that knife, and the serrations made sawing the notches very easy. It is definitely going to make me think seriously about taking some sort of serrated blade, even a pocketknife, on trips just in case. Everyone keeps saying to just sharpen up your straight edge, and I agree. I think we can see that the shaving-sharp edge on the knives in the videos didn't come from the factory, as I've had those knives for some time. So I can sharpen my knives just fine, but in a bad situation, if you're injured, or poor or no light, lost your sharpening equpment, only have the use of one hand, or any one of a number of other scenarios, I can see where it just wouldn't be a viable solution to stop, and sharpen your knife. That is the single biggest advantage of serrations, to me. If you just have to keep cutting, and can't stop for whatever reason, they keep going. Straight edges can't do that as effectively, even as much as I prefer them. I still remember this pic from years ago. I had a Spyderco, the first of many, not long after.

Hey, AIG, you buy me a drink, and I'll give you some acclaim.

LOL! I rarely drink anything other than coffee, tea and diet Mountain Dew. I'd gladly share a pot of Constant Comment tea with you any day. Matter of fact, I think I'll brew a pot of Constant Comment right now.

I agree. I also accept my "warning" for what I said. It was inappropriate. I have always said what I mean (whether in person or on the web) and sometimes that gets me into trouble.

So, how about those Tom Brown Tracker knives?

What about them? As far as I know, they're pretty popular with the bushcrafting crowd.

The only place I've seen them bashed is Edit: removed the forum due to the above modpost.

We better quit, or we're gonna get in trouble. Moving on, nobody else was pumped up by that old Spyderco ad? That really motivated me back in the 80's or 90's, whenever it came out.

Yeah I loved that ad. I've met a few of the guys from Spyderco IRL. Nothing but respect for those guys and their product. Carried my Spyderco Delica 4 today. Great company, great product, great people. That ad is pure genius. I love it.

Do you want me to start a thread for the rest of your standup comedy routine? :)

I hope everyone understands the reasons for us not wanting cross-forum drama. All it ever really produces is bad feelings and unnecessary animosity.

I agree, its not worth the cheap thrill of the moment. Just hard to resist. But it is a sweet, cheap thrill. Thanks for modding like a Moderator, and not a parent.

I've heard Sal Glesser is really cool to deal with, no experience personally though. However it came about, that Spyderhole really changed things. I still carry an original Military that I got when they first came out, and almost wish all my folders had that hole. Plus, I miss that Over-the-Top marketing from the 80's and early 90's. Entertainment and product lust rolled into one.

I met Sal at Blade 2011. He was a total class act. He did not have to treat me well. I'm a nobody. He didn't have to give me the time of day. My grandfather told me once that you are defined by how you treat those that you don't have to be nice to. Sal had no idea who I was from a hole in the wall but he was a total gentleman. He and everyone I have ever met from Spyderco has exemplified class. And I guarantee you that not a single one of them would remember meeting me, but the fact remains, they were gentlemen when they didn't have to be. They were gentlemen when no one was watching.

At Blade 2 or 3 years before that, I met Lynn C. Thompson. He was very professional and actually talkative. His entourage, not so much. I've got several Spyderco products, and I still think they have some of, if not the best, overall serrations out there.

I honestly wasn't trying to be funny. I mentioned the other forum, then after I posted it I saw the reply two posts above mine and edited it out to comply.

I thought that was the right thing to do. I completely understand the reason, and hadn't considered it until I had already sent that reply in.

My bad...I thought you were trying to be funny and I was laughing when I read your post. :p

But yes, regarding the Tom Brown Tracker... I've seen it being well-liked by bushcrafters here in the States for the most part. I've never tried it, and I'll admit that I thought it looked silly at first... but it definitely seems to be used.
