I'd say the horseman is a good start too, depending on what one's "knife expectations" may be. And it's not mini by most standards.

Thanks Chuck! Like the ergonomics of the grip area. More important to me the more knives I handle. Quality beats quantity for my interests now. Older and wiser and asking before jumping in.
 
Eki sells them direct and there are several guys on IG that make and sell similar ones. Easy enough to buy on from eki on your next purchase since it doesn't move the shipping cost needle much
 
Unpopular opinion: I've never cared for how Ernie fits his scale overlays to the bolsters. I can understand them being gapped and not flush back in the day, but standards have changed and they look off now. It just bugs me when makers don't take the time to snug everything up, and he's certainly not the only one.
